I've seen some few times. They are only rarely seen in Southern Finland. One's gotta go to Lapland to see them at their finest. Unfortunately I haven't been there.

PATA: AAM enabled SATA: AAM disabled This was the situation when the drives were released. Link to SR.com's review of 7200.7 , note the different access times between PATA and SATA. Maybe has changed nowadays? AAM mode cannot be changed. Though there is a rumor that some OEMs have a utility which ca...

Using SpeedFan is a no-go?

You could probably splice the fan lead and solder a resistor in between. But doing so will void the warranty.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I'd like to mention that I did eventually mod my FSP350-60PN(PF) with the GlacialTech SilentBlade. It took some reasoning before I was willing to do so. But, when compared the SPCR reviews of FSP Aurora, NX-3500 and NX-4090, it's obvious that for sub-100W loads,...

There was some confusion between Intel & nVidia about how much current was to be available for this. Initially, Intel specified 75W. nVidia wanted 150W available. So some time later, Intel & nVidia agreed, and 150W is the correct max power draw that should be available on the PCI-e graphics line. M...

GPUs are generally more heat-tolerant than CPUs. Does your card have a tiny 486-type heatsink? My Voodoo3 2000 does, and it runs quite hot (haven't measured).

I'd say you're fine, since you've used it for a few years without failure. :D

AFAIK FireFox has only one active "request" per time per server, whereas IE has four. There are (unsurprisingly) few hacks for FF which enable more than one request per time/server. I've understood that even then there is only one active "connection" to the server. I'm no expert on this matter eithe...

I agree with what Jordan wrote. You can never have to much HD space (that is, off course, a subjective statement) and the price difference between a 40-60GB & a 80GB disk is negligible, so a 80GB drive will be in favour when it comes to the price/GB ratio. However, if you are certain that your stor...

First thing I'd do when building a new system, is to burn all those floppy drivers (drivers that come on a floppy) to a CD, that way, you won't need the floppy again next time. Same thing here, except that the XP setup cannot install SATA drivers from a CD-ROM, but from a floppy or equivalent (A: d...

Another possibility is that you are using a PATA RAID controller (obviously without the RAID functionality), or the drives are SATA, and are connected to a 3rd party controller. SMART is not supported on 3rd party controllers, except in following cases: 1. SATA connectors in Intel ICH5 and up 2. SAT...

CNPS7700 might not fit, depending on the placement of the socket on the motherboard. Zalman's list says it'll fit, which means that it doesn't interfere with the GFX card with basic cooling. If the card has a plate at the backside, then it might be incompatible. PSU could also be in the way, especia...

I'm thinking about changing the fan in Fortron (mine is the 350W model) to GlacialTech SilentBlade, which has performance similar to the Nexus fan. One more question on CrystalCPUID: How can I make the ramping up/down part of my startup? I created shortcuts and used those in my startup folder, but that only changes it to one setting. I like the horsepower on demand. Add "/hide /cq" (without the quotation marks) to the shortcut. Cheers, Jan

There was an option in the BIOS under C&Q for fan speed, I think. I'll have to check when I get home, but the default value for it was 11/16. That sounds like Asus' Q-Fan.
