First of all. Arent you using way to much pasta between your CPU and HS? I mean, I use the size of 1 grain of rice which I spread out by using a creditcard or something.. pasta or rice?? maybe it is a little bit too much, i have always previously used a very thin amount and spread it out just...

Considering i ordered the TR backplate for my rev B a few days ago, this comes as very welcome! How easy was it to screw the springs in without bending the fins? screwing in the springs without bending any fins is easy but you will need a long screwdriver. it needs to be longer than the ninja is hi...

bolt-thru upgrade for ninja revB (pics)
finally got around to installing the ninja properly. temps did not significantly improve but this was expected because the push-pins were working OK in my case (i keep the motherboard flat so that there was no cantilever force on the push-pins. as you can see the TIM was evenly distributed when i re...

i remember seeing this same idea years ago when rusty tried it and thinking at the time it was interesting, innovative and a really bad idea.. if you think about the total surface area of the tank, which is just a rectangular prism, theres not all that much area to dissipate this heat by natur...

i think you can quite easily get an air cooled machine using high quality, big, low-rpm fans down to a quieter and smoother noise signature than doing anything with an aquarium pump will get .. but perhaps you are mucking around with the oil computer idea for novelty value rather than practical reas...

At the end of the day however, I like to power down the system to save energy and wear and tear on the HD and fans. if you set in bios standby to go to "S3" mode, then HD and fans will spin down when you put the computer to standby. everything should turn off except the 5Vsb rail (which keeps the r...

i see too many/too bright LEDs as a kind of visual noise and i like to 'silence' this kind of noise as well in my builds. standby lights annoy me and i especially loathe flashing standby lighs. fortunately the 3008wfp standby light is not too offensive, a constant muted orange, so its not the source...

Is your experience in accordance with their findings? yes. interesting to see that the standby 'chirping' is not peculiar to just my sample.. i wish the manufacturer would go back to putting a big external power brick on the cable, instead of putting the transformer etc into the back of the panel. ...

dell 3008WFP
is a very nice display but has a much louder whine/buzz noise than my previous LCD which was a dell 2001fp. also it is very power hungry, pulling 124 watts as i type (that's more than all of the rest of the system!) even when it's off it consumes 17W (the 2001fp registered 0W while off) while it is ...

FAN DETAILS A Scythe Slipstream 120mm fan is supplied with the NinjaCU. It's rated for 800 rpm, and the absurd stated SPL of 10.7 dBA (presumably at one meter). The latter specification stretches the imagination. Where in the world did they measure it, and with what kind of equipment? i guess it co...

Some comments: On page 6, under conclusion #2, the link to the bolt-thru kit is wrong. Maybe you mean this picture? No, I don't mean that one. You cannot have any part that goes over the base. I see my link didn't work (it was a pop up image). I meant this one: LGA775 olt-Thru-Kit Retail BOX Bolt-t...

yup i did this exact same trick on my logitech mouseman optical some years ago :) i like it too, there was only one issue which is that since the mousewheel can stop at any position (when previously it would only 'land' between bumps) it can sometimes stop right at the edge of a 'tick' if you know w...

is it possible? i have installed my new motherboard (GA-EP35C-DS3R) and am trying to get sound working the way i am used to. i am using the 'Realtek HD Audio' onboard sound and i noticed when playing half-life 2 that while alyx is yakking away in the background if gordon turns his back to her you ca...
