You're now where I was three weeks ago. Think about a Passive PSU instead !!!!

Covering the top is not a good long term idea.

Fan Change

Keep us posted. After swapping my old Seagate for a notebook hard drive, the power supply has become the main source of noise. I also have the Corsair that I got on sale and it also makes a lot of fan noise; that and it's bigger than I'd like. Why don't you swap the fan ? Someone in these Forums mu...

CODA

Well it's all done now - time for a cigarette. The Zalman fan controller works fine - fan at 688rpm - very quiet. BUT the Silverstone PSU must have an abnormal 12v rail (or I have a duff one) as it blew out all the Zalman LEDs - they glowed bright blue for 2 secs and then vanished. I swapped control...

Top Vent

If I recall correctly, the Corsair HX520 doesn't have any vents except the fan grill and the exhaust, so you can't block the top vent. It's the top vent of the Antec case we are talking about. See : http://www.antec.com/ec/productDetails.php?ProdID=00390 Perfect for a Silverstone Fanless PSU (lets ...

NSK3480

Hi there. I'm going to keep this as I seem to have made it work OK. I like the size and weight of this case even though it is limited in what it can accommodate. I must have a quieter environment than yours as I can definitely hear the stock Antec PSU fan, even though I have a low load system. Re yo...

Final Doings

I got the Silverstone PSU (half price on ebay). Works like a charm. Although has more cables to manage than the Corsair OR the stock Antec , they are easier to stuff in the case Floppy Caddy. I've strung a 2.5in Seagate 80gb drive vertically against the front inside surface. It's supported on 4x 3mm...

Damn Difficult Antec NSK3480

Hmmm... that's annoying. I guess you could mark where the holes need to be, take them down to your local machine shop and get them to drill the holes and tap a thread in. But there must be another HDD enclosure that has multiple mounting points? Nope. The space is so restricted that it's almost imp...

Quiet 2.5in drive

Update for you on my case AND on your question about 2.5in drives. I've swapped my 3.5in Western Digital Caviar SE WD800JD 80 GB SATA for a Seagate HD 2.5'' 80GB Momentus 7200.2 SATA7200rpm 8MB (ST980813AS). Much quieter. Plus I have suspended it in the Floppy Bay of this case. I had always thought ...

Spatula

Good idea. I'll remember that for next time. Better than a recycled DIY tool. EDIT Just had a look at the article referred to above. Wasn't aware there was special "cleaner". I just use ether bought from the phamacist in 250ml bottles. What do others use ? EDIT #2 Well, I looked at the Arctic websit...

Minja Installation

I agree with the last poster. Spreading a layer before installing is my preferred method. I've now done 3 Minjas and use a small spatula to coat the top surface. Only problem has been that this makes the surface very slick. If the fingers slip when trying to fix the second latch, then the Minja can ...

Conclusion:

1) When you really detest noise: use a good CPU cooler, quality fans and lower the RPM on all fan's!
2) Try to get all fans rotating around 800 rpm.
4. Use less fans
5. Insulate your case walls
6. Don't skimp on the quality of your power supply.

Well, since you now have a spare power supply, wouldn't it be cheaper to do the fanswap? Having the ability to pick a fan you are certain of... Funny you just mentioned that. I have just found the 80mm fan that came with my latest Minja purchase (from ebay). It's not the stock 80mm Scythe fan (too ...

You could mount the Scythe Quiet Drive in the secont optical drive space. I would definatly keep the PSU and do a fan swap. The case is designed for the top chamber to have front to back flow seperate of the 'main' chamber. this is a huge advantage in terms of cooling and quiet. If you had a 450VX ...

Fanless Power Supply in an Antec NSK3480 ?

I'm trying to remedy my disappointment with this case. It's noisy with the stock power supply, which I replaced with a Corsair 520. The Corsair is much better, but as it now exhausts upwards, the quieter fan is now easily audible. Yes I could replace the Antec PS fan instead. On my 2x P182's (also w...

Scythe Enclosures

Just a comment on the last two posts : It is virtually impossible to use these Scythe enclosures in this Antec case. Why ? Because when the drives are mounted in the Scythe enclosure the only mounting holes are in the sides (Scythe assumes that this is a normal PC case and therefore will mount from ...

Antec NSK3480 build

I've just built one of these and I wouldn't recommend it for a VERY quiet option. Here's why : 1. Basic problem with the Power Supply config. The P/S supplied with the case is too noisy but does have the advantage that the fan exhausts to the rear of the case. I changed the P/S to a Corsair 520 modu...

I already closed of the vent with sounddampening and im already regretting it a little as well as i cut off the mounting jacks that u mount the top fan on since there is only 2 screw holes. Closing the top vent - acoustically

Here's a tip. Don't close the top vent physically from inside the case as you may need the cooling outlet. BUT you can close off much of the noise by cutting a piece of case noise blocking material ( I see you have some Be-Quiet Sounddampening ), and mount it on the underside of the top vent cover. ...

hi there. i'm looking to buy an mcubed system, but might replace my Nexus power supply with one of these instead (don't have much power draw anymore since i offloaded my drives to a NAS).
