Re: D510MO (Mount Olive) : 13watt Atom D510 mITX board

In the US, avaialble here, http://www.mini-box.com/D510MO-mini-ITX-Intel , also cheaper. Combine that with a picoPSU-80 and a M350 fanless enclosure and you got yourself a fanless PC with the latest Atom processor.... Finally, Intel is getting it right... -A http://www.tranquilc-shop.co.uk/acatalog...

For ~$99 and passive at that!

This could be a great platform for a simple WHS box.

passively cool Celeron 430 in a Shuttle

So I came across a Shuttle K45 and a cheap Celeron 430 (35watts).

I was hoping to passivley cool this while using a 92mm Nexus for the exhaust fan.

Any suggestions on a low profile cooler for the 430?

I will be using this as a WHS box.

Quiet NAS

Has been asked, but worth asking again. Are there any quiet 2/4 drive NAS units out there? Say for around $200? The QNap seems to be the one to beat, but its price is prohibitive. The Intel SS4200-E seems great, though its feature-set seems a bit handicapped and power consumption is :( Thanks for an...

if you do NOT use the OD on a regular basis.....why even install it? I would save the space, and get a beefier cooler for example. I myself haven't burned anything in a while, and doing so less and less. Install OS - USB flash drive mkv movie - WD media player and USB flash drive Games - Steam and D...

I actually want to see a review of this case as a gaming system with a 5870 or similar card. the cooling setup looks like it could handle it. however, after looking at the pictures some more, there really isn't a fan that is blowing air to or from directly to the VGA card, as the fans beside the CPU...

This could be potentially interesting for some of you.

There's a megathread on [H], where the builders ran through and captured ideas from members.

ditch the OD altogether or go the USB (external route), or networked if possible.

This thing is quiet! Will definitely use as a secondary once I get my SSD.

Will report some benches later.

really no point in 2 different platforms co-mingling.

manufacturing cost just increases, and so does complexity on the user's end.

its like those silly motherboards with BOTH DDR2/DDR3 slots. :(

I'm waiting for the 1TB F3 from Newegg ($79), and will be mouting on a NoVibes III I picked up for $10.

The thing goes OOS as soon as its listed! :(

So, the 1TB version should have the same noise profile as the 500Gb version right? Yes, it will be a bit louder, but more/less the same right?

I'm finally moving to SSD for my OS drive and wanted to get a secondary HD.

Have decided on a 1TB Samsung.

Question now is F2 or F3?

The F3 seems blazingly fast and relatively quiet.

Anyone have had a chance to compare between the 1TB F3 and 1TB Ecogreen?

Thanks!

Hi Steve, They are reasonably quiet: idle noise is "thin" sounding (something less than a whoosh) and slightly louder than some drives; but it is not a whine. It is not noticeable once it is mounted inside my iMac (which has rubber grommet suspension). It is noticeable from say 12"-16" away when it...
