Re: Reducing noise for music (Asus Xonar STX ^^)
Your system fine unless you intend to do something demanding like A/V transcoding and production work. Undervolting is perfectly safe, the only downside is the time you spend to find the ideal value and as always YMMV. Let me know if you're still interested and I can point you to a guide. I'd sugges...

Try this PSU calculator: http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp BTW there are silicone grommets you can buy from Antec as spare parts which would further reduces HDD noise over the stock hard rubber ones: http://store.antec.com/Product/accessory-spare_parts/rubber-grommets-harddrive-p1...

Re: Fan Swap for Corsair VX 450
Anyone know a 120mm fan that can run reliably and silently at 4V? The be quiet! SilentWings 120 USC from sources such as http://www.aquatuning.se/product_info.php/info/p6789_Be-Quiet-Case-fl-kt-Silen2-packgs-USC-T12025-LF---120x120x25mm-.html has a 3.5v start voltage. Re: Fan Swap for Corsair VX 450
I guess the CX400W wants to spin up the fan at lower loads. The data I'm seeing for VX450 is 4V <250W load. By 300W it's at ~6V.
Since this got bumped, let me re-state my question with my specific concern in mind:

Silencing LCD coil whine w. hot glue, need advice
I'm bothered by coil whine coming from my HP LP2065, it occurs when the screen is displaying opaque shades such as the gmail inbox. I've found a picture of the power supply board and I think I'm seeing some components worth going at with a glue gun. I don't recognize the chip like components to the ...

Re: Fan Swap for Corsair VX 450
Sorry about the necroposting but is the 1200rpm SlipStream (SY1225SL12M) still a good choice for a fan swap? I'll connect the yellow lead to the motherboard fan header and will be glad to report the figures should anyone be interested.

The tool-less center fan mounts look like a concern silence wise. I could see myself removing the plastic claws and grinding down the pins to make use of soft mounts.

Re: Reducing noise for music (Asus Xonar STX ^^)
If you'd want to decode 1080i in highest quality (MadVR+CUVID)the suggestion is a GTX550ti. Otherwise you could follow CA_Steve's suggestion. 1TB WD GP should indeed be super quiet, no need to worry about the storage then.

To me, as someone who has owned more than a few recommended drives, I doubt any current 3TB drive will be included until the manufacturers move to >1TB platters.

Re: Reducing noise for music (Asus Xonar STX ^^)
Stick to recomended heatsinks without snap in mounting. Once you find effiecient cooling at lower fan speeds you will start to hear HDD noise. To reduce HDD noise consider a vibration reducing 3,5 to 5,25 adaptor and a small SSD for the OS and programs, 64GB is all you need if you move your user fol...

You could try coating the coils with hot glue. Another thing worth trying is disabling various power saving features in bios or through Throttlestop.

Well as you'll have the SSD for the OS you'll have the chance to copy over some big projects to the SSD and see how it copes. I read Intel supports TRIM in RAID now which makes RAID feasible for SSD and opens lots of possibilities. BTW If I were you I'd contact the sound card and motherboard manufac...

Re: Got some advice for my new (gaming) build?
Well, I always got the impression from previous posts that the Asus boards required a PWM fans for software control. So anyone with nice 3-pin fans from previous systems would have to abandon them, in return you get sophisticated and pretty fan control via bios or software. I might be misstaken howe...

A 4-pin AKA PWM-fan will be potentially controllable in any with header. Go with one of those and you'll one thing less to worry about.

Re: Digital Audio Workstation Build: pls. help me pick a cas
Nice proposed build. One caveat: I came across this post in the RME user forum by googling "RME sandy bridge". Apparently, the 'avoid Sandy Bridge' stuff is due to Intel's implementation of the PCI to PCI-e bridge (starved for bandwidth). While Intel has updated the bridge firmware, you might want ...

You mean the P160? That one looks like a nice roomy vanilla-ATX case save for the garish looks.quest_for_silence wrote:markanini wrote:Not similar to FT02 but different from the cases you list is the upcoming Antec P280.

1. less power but less uncertainty Asus P8Z68-V Pro and i7 2600k Sandy Bridge? Consider Gigabyte UD4 a decent alternative, save for a less slick looking Bios. It's worth noting Gigabyte it's the only brand(beside Intel) that can boast Intel VRD12 spec certification which puts strict requirements on...

christianh, you must realize that reducing the RPMs via a resistor or bios/speedfan is standard practice, it's activated by default in motherboards since many years back. You see ame uses the reducer for his NH-P12 and judging by your respctive location he has at least 10C higher ambient temps than ...

The Core i7 3930K will have six cores and twice the L3 cache of a 2500k. If one uses lots of modeling and convolution plugins on many un-frozen tracks it might just come in handy. I totally second the advice given regarding storage though. Once other parts are silent you'll start to hear them big ti...

Messing with the innards of my Logitech M500 (Big pics!)
I'm a bit of a Logitech mouse fan, while I've used other brands I always come back to them. I'm aganst the idea of passively cooled graphics cards when you can get have much better thermals by using a good heatsink and a fan at inaudible RPMs. Also that way if you want better graphics you wont have to limit yourself. There's quite some discussion on mid-to-high end graphics card choices on...

A system build topic disguised as a PSU topic? So here goes: Get a Gigabyte UD3R or better UD3P or UD4 If you plan to do any OC. You'll have to replace your HDD to get really quiet. Ok, thanks for the info - I'll check it out. I guess that's another reason to get the gigabyte board - though I'm rather worried about the bootloop.
