Update - going to order the Fan Mate 2 tonight or tomorrow, I've identified where it can be best attached on the case and where the point of entry should be into the guts of the unit. The gap(s) left from breaking away the original stock fan are perfect to feed the connectors and cables through. My ...

It's a standard low speed L1A (made in Japan). I can't remember the full manufacturing code off hand, but it's the same one a lot of people around here use. Yes, the Xbox has overheat protection and that sounds like what you've experienced. When you say "out of the box" I presume you mean the fan s...

Must stop posting in a row  ...anyway here's some info of mild interest. I took the SilenX off what I now know is a 12v mod (the piggy back) and attached to the motherboard. Result - it's now very quiet...but the concern is airflow, there really isn't a lot. Temp wise well my EvoX dashboard al...

Well my curiousity got the better of me :) Got the SilenX fan and took a look inside the Xbox.. The work that had been done wasn't all that pretty, certainly wasn't that smooth. The Arctic fan hadn't been fixed properly. It was jyst basically held in by the four sides and the way it had been trimmed...

Well I've got my WD3200JB, it's in a Mentor 3.5" external enclosure and I'm pretty impressed. It's got the same whoosh quality as the Samsungs, vibration if anything is less, seeks are barely more than the Samsungs. I don't know whether there are any utilities that can be used to access the drive s...

I'm not about to mess about with the work that's just been done for me but I'm wondering about how good the SilenX fans could do.
This unit looks extremely well suited.

Had a quick reply, seems the 40mm is a bit bigger (20mm rather than 10mm) which may cause an issue size wise..have to take a close look. 25db seems reasonable, although I have seen a 14db SilenX @ Kustom PCs but with 3 pin. If they can either offer an adaptor or wire it to a 2 pin that may be the be...

I've read good things about Dorothy before, sent an email..see what happens.Aleksi wrote:Hi,
Dorothy Bradbury (http://www.dorothybradbury.co.uk) has atleast 40mm Deltas. They have a 3-pin as default, but ask her about the 2-pin connectors. You should ask, if he can get hold of any other manufacturers fans.

WTD: Quiet 40mm 2 pin fan
I'm wanting to change the really noisy fan on the new 5.25" external enclosure I've got.
It's need to be a 40mm, 12v with a 2 pin connector.
I might wanna buy a couple if I can find them.
I'm in the UK, but quite happy to look abroad for the best product...can anyone help?
TIA

Well we all know having a quiet system was the last thing on the designer's mind. I did compare my newly modded unit with my old PS2 and I really noticed the difference! The PS2 really sounds like a low blowing hairdryer, I guess when you get deep into a game you don't notice it so much. As it was m...

Well I've just got my modded Xbox back... I had an Xecutor 2.6 Lite chip fitted, plus a Samsung SV1604 160gb HDD and an Arctic Cooling Pro TC fan fitted. (Didn't fancy trying to do all this myself considering I don't have a soldering iron or a dremmel). Overall, including to/from shipping, it came t...

I dunno what they're up to..perhaps they are doing a sort of soft launch for the range. Maybe it will be a one or two at a time in different regions. Anyway, for mega-backup purposes in the meantime, I've ordered a WD3200JB. It's going to be used in an external case and won't be on that often, so an...

Strange that there missing but then again the Samsung UK site is not always that up to date. Plenty of places sell samsung hard drives in the UK so they must be selling, pulling out wouldn't make much sence when the company is always expanding? The range was there until at least the back end of las...

Thought I'd dig this up rather than create a new thread...I've noticed that my Plexwriter Premium CD writer in a fanless 5.25" case gets pretty warm and smells a bit. It's not a sort of burning smell, more sort of warm rubber. I've always noticed it, but I'm pretty certain the Plextor is fine in its...

Experience of Vantec NexStar 2 enclosure?
Cutting down the vibration caused by HDDs in external enclosures has always been tricky. So when I stumbled over info about the Vantec NexStar 2 3.5" case I became interested.

Actually I tempted to just get a big gb drive for a once a fortnight/month mega backup and try to carry less on the iomega. That way any drive will do (within reason) although I'd prefer one that keeps the vibes down as I find that worse than whine or whoosh when you've got a drive on the tabletop. ...
