Biomimicry fans on the horizon

Post by Reachable » Wed Jun 13, 2007 3:55 pm

The link is to a business news article about biomimicry, a term which seems to mean a more dedicated approach to using natural structures as the inspiration for new technologies than conventional engineering research.

One of the companies designs fans based on the forms that turbulent water itself takes as it's moving (such as down a bathtub drain.) The article mentions that they're involved in designing PC fans and the company's website discusses it, but I didn't see any mention of already existent products.

In any case, the article is really interesting, discussing fans, cars, and display screens.

quite interesting stuff, hopefully in a couple of years we can go back to having some 40mm fans that that would surpass the efficiency and noise reduction of today's 120mm fans ;)
