P4 M socket 478

Post by Schroinx » Wed Oct 20, 2004 5:30 am

I'm building a new HTPC for running WMCE 2005 with the Ahanix D-Vine 5 case. As the thermal properties of HTPC cases in generel are very poor I am considering different paths. MCE5 requires a P4 2.4 to run smoothly and I already have a 2.6. So the question is, what P4-M (socket 478) do I need in order to get the same horsepower, and how litlle juice do P4-M use, e.g. what HS-F can I get by with?

Unfortunately I haven't found any tests of these CPU's. Maybe something for SPCR, as these mobile CPU's requires less cooling due to lower power requirements, and therefore will could be a good bet for a silent machine.

Later...

Well, guess that was kind of a stupid post i wrote. I just found out that the P4-M and P4 is compatible, but the pin-out is different. So eventou a P4-M would work with P4 desktop chipset, it would need a different pin-out.

So much for my good idea.
