acoustifan not quiet?

Post by ryboto » Tue Jan 04, 2005 9:02 pm

From all the reviews I'd read, I'd assume the fan would be quiet without the use of the in-line resistor. The one I own is currently the loudest component of my system before it even warms up(thermistor model)...so, can anyone else attest to this? Should I use the resistor?? I've got two thermistor controlled fans, an antec, and acoustifan, and the acoustifan is the loudest during normal operation, and from a cold start...

Haha god yes use the resistor! That's 80% of the beauty of the acoustifan, from what I hear.

The beauty of the acoustifan (or Globe) is that it can push a tremendous amount of air at full 12V but undervolt to wonderfully quiet levels. I'm assuming we're talking about the 120mm version. The smaller ones are dead quiet.

At 12v I found the C version of the 92mm had to much noise. On the in line resister it was pretty good. I put it in my wifes Antec PSU and let the PSU control it and it's pretty darn quiet.
