SPCR is 3 years old today

Post by MikeC » Fri Apr 01, 2005 9:59 am

Something moderator Steve Hayashi actually had to remind me about. Well, it's sort of our birthday, I recall making some kind of PR announcement on April Fool's Day 2002 that we were officially open for visitors -- althrough it had been accessible for a few days before. We didn't get a deluge right away, but it sure is a busy place now! Cheers to all, thanks for being with us.

For a laugh, see what we were writing about back then, at the bottom of the internal news archives page. Amazingly, much of the same old, same old!

I'm struggling to believe it is only 3 years - seems like much longer, and I mean that in a good sense :D

Congratulations! Long may SPCR reign.

cheers, martin

Happy third birthday. Best wishes to Mike for getting this great site off the ground in the first place! I'll buy you a pint next time I'm in Vancouver. (Is granville island brewery still good?)

Thanks everyone.

Why Apr 1st? Well, the domain name got picked and bought a month earlier & I'd been scrambling to put some content in as well as to develop a basic structure for the site, policies, etc... and then that date was looming, it was the 1st of a month... why not? as good a date as any, and if it's a bit funny, that might even be better. Remember this was something done entirely in "spare" time, just a "hobby", for "fun" -- I was working 40 hrs/wk already, and probably spending probably another 30 hrs on SPCR.

Happy Birthday SPCR.

SPCR is the only forum I've actually followed for longer than a few weeks. ..first as a lurker then as a poster.

It's great stuff. Thanks for all the effort everyone!

Happy Birthday SPCR!

Thanks to Mike, Tibors, Ralf, Steve Hayashi, Rusty, and all the other patrons, friends and contibutors ($ and information) of this excellent web site. You are friendly voices of clarity and reason in a fast-moving industry that has too little of that. The advice I've received here has been sound, reasonable and worthwhile. Hope I offer some of the same as my experience grows and my computing gets quieter.

David Frost

PS. When purchasing the VM-101 at CompUSA, the young salesman asked how I knew about it and why I wanted it. He was getting ready to build a new system that he wanted to be quiet. It was an excellent opportunity to share the joy and your web address.

Happy birthday SPCR from me as well.
Thanks to all the contributors, the very nice community - and of course - escpecially to Mike. Not to forget about the admins in the background Alistair and Richard.
Let's see it like this: When there would be only truly silent PCs, what would we "experts" would be there for, then?

A big thanks to Mike for his vision of creating a place for knowledgeable and civil discussion.

Thanks as well to all the mods and posters who keep this a great place to learn and trade ideas.

SPCR is THE place to be if you want to learn how to silence your pc.

Happy Birthday SPCR!

Grattis på födelsedagen SPCR!!!

I know for sure that I'm spending too much time here at SPiCy R...
It's actually not that I'm a real compuiter freak, but rather a technology freak,
since I'm not that interested in using them, only building them. Software is so boring!
SPCR gives me a lot of good reading, thanks to Mike Chin, Ralf Hütter, Edward Ng and all the others!
One day I would really like to make an article for SPCR, but I don't know if it will happen.
While I do have a lot of ideas in my head just like Bluefront for instance,
I'm really not so good at making something real out of it like he can.
Oh well, I'm a dreamer... :P

There's no site like SPCR, you're the best by far!

Way to go team Image

I think my post count here is higher than any other forum I frequent. So, to me, that says that I mumble incoherently here more than anywhere else. Thanks for putting up with me.

[Edited for incoherent mumbling]

Happy Birthday SPCR!!!

BIG BIG THANKS to MikeC, as well as other reviewers, mods, contributors for making this community a very enjoyable place for learning and sharing.

SPCR has been quietly becoming the loudest champion for more silent computing. And the world has listened - just look at how many products that are targeting Silent Community today compared to 3 years ago. :D :D :D

Happy Birthday SPCR!

I recall the first thing that led me to the forums was my search for a quiet power supply. :D

Thanks for the wealth of information this community provides!

It seems I always come here to learn about the quietest hard drive, power supply or cooling solution. Recently its been the Pentium-M buzz. Thanks for all the info.

I'm glad to have SPRC as such a good "Friend" of mine!
