A64 Winchester/Venice cores test at less than half their TDP

These results are astonishing to say the least. If these numbers are true and so are the Pentium M specs, then the Pentium M has been dethroned. Even non-mobile A64s would win the speed/watt war. Unfortunately the Pentium M probably won't be tested like this until hell freezes over. But I am certainly hesitating to pay the price premium for a desktop Pentium M now that an A64 Venice and Winchester have both shown to max out at around 30 watts (+/- 10%) running Prime95. And less than 10 watts at idle. If these numbers are true then why in the name of god has AMD not owned up to it. It is quite an achievement. It just doesn't seem possible. Also, this is the first time I have seen benchmark results in fps/watt.

Interesting. I had thought that the Venice core drew slightly more power than the Winchester, not less power.

I have heard this claim a lot. Is there truth to it?

The accuracy all hinges on whether or not the CPU gets all its power from the extra power connector, like they say. If this is the case, I would say their results are pretty realistic. They are very thorough and list exactly what equipment they used, so it would be possible to try the experiment if one was so inclined.

hehe old thread :P

but anyway... yeh it looks really impressive. its a shame most reviews just look at the overclocking and gaming fps, rather than Actual power consumption tests etc :[
