Noisy tv

Post by GamingGod » Thu Dec 26, 2002 2:43 am

Its not really computer related but i got a new tv for christmas and it buzzes so loud that i think im gonna return it tomorrow, so i guess i understand what u guys mean by coil buzz now, i had never heard a tv that made that much noise while muted, its hard to watch it unless u turn the volume up at least half the way to drown it out.

Does it disappear after a while? It's pretty normal for a little bit of a buzz to be made when everything's still warming up.

Ive always had good luck with Sharp TV's. Makes me wonder why they're not more popular. Perhaps its marketing.

I owned a Sharp about 10 years ago that a feature that I haven't seen before or since. It had a button on the front panel that you could push, and the remote would start beeping! And it would keep beeping until you pressed a button on the remote. That way you could home-in on the beeping remote after you lost it under the couch cushions. Brilliant!

I miss that TV.

Technica

Post by seishino » Fri Dec 27, 2002 7:52 am

I had a 41" Technica that would de-gauss every time you turned the power on. It was quite impressive, too: it sounded like a giant metal gong had been hit by a drunken flying duck. It was very impressive, and made the turning on of the TV into an event like the discovery of the monolith in 2001.

Too bad the TV was a huge piece of junk.

You can take your tv to a tv repairer and ask to fix it (a cheaper approach than buying a new tv). Tv repairers use generally lacquer to silence the rewinding coils, and it is easy to do also yourself, only difficulty is to find right kind of lacquer and apply enough of it to the coils. This works also on noisy crt monitors.
