A clarification / question:

Perhaps make that 4 bonafide posts during the month of January. Thus making sure that it is active posters, not those who might have wandered off (sure hope there's not too many that have, but it does happen)

GeeZ..

It is a excellent idea Mike, I come to this forum everyday and it's usually pretty quiet. Wow what a difference, I have come here today and there are so many posts to go through.

I always have a good read in this forum as I find it a very useful source to learn about quiet computing and expand knowledge. Lets hope you get tons of new members to make this website more interesting to all of us.

I would love to see a new review everyday, as this is not possible, I get the second best thing, more posts in the forum makes the website interesting indeed. :D

Good luck to all I hope you all win.. hee hee

Four? I think it should be like 10-ish for the same reason.

I'm somewhat new here, but I like it. Replies are really fast. And now I have something else to do while FMS's forums are down. (FMS is the other name for MS Eradication...I didn't want to start cursing on my first day )

Oh yeah, and I can sleep now that my PC is so much more quiet. I'm not even kidding! It was so loud I could hear it 10 feet away with a pillow over my head!

Yes yes, I'm in a massive posting mood today, that's all. Has nothing to do with the thought of getting free stuff though, I already have everything!

Random draw, limit of one prize per SPCR member.
Looking at the prizes, there are some pretty specific prizes for specific needs. Would it be possible to do the random draw by winner, then let the winner pick a prize from the pool of remaining prizes, then randomly pick the next winner?

Or compressing the communication time for such a scheme, you can pick winners and each give them a drawing order, then have everyone send back a list of what they wish in order of preference. The winners then get the prize they want by matching up the order of their seeding and prize preference.

I know that would be a lot of hassle to manage, but maybe someone would volunteer (like me) and that way more prizes would go to people who have an immediate use for them (for instance the P4 zalman cooler would go to someone who actually has a P4)

I'm curious what one uses for random user selection...

Post by seishino » Thu Jan 23, 2003 6:19 pm

I've never run a contest before, but I can't imagine a random draw with this many people involves actually printing out everyone's username on a piece of paper, cutting them, and drawing people out of a hat. I know this has absoletely nothing to do with silent computers, and you probably shouldn't post it to the contest information page as it would be unnecessarily confusing, but what do you plan to use to pick out a username? A ti-92+? printf(rand(RANDSEED, MAXUSERS));? 100-sided dice? A book of random numbers?

Darts?

How about a random # generator in C++ that picks 40 random numbers (from 1 to how ever many users)?

I could post the source if you want...
