A little system help...

Post by Schlotkins » Thu Mar 27, 2003 5:42 am

Hi there-

I'm putting together a PC and I'm trying to make it as quiet as possible. Here's what I'm thinking:

-Abit NF7-M nForce2 MB
-XP1700+ Tbird-B O/C'd
-2 512 meg sticks of ram
-Thermalright SLK800 w/ 80mm Panaflo FBA08A12L1A
-NX-4000 power supply

The only things I'm still debating are video card, case and hard drive (unless there is something wrong with this system.) I'm probably going to run the 80mm Panaflo @ 7v and I should be able to get around 2.3gig on the Tbred. If not, I'll take what I can get at that noise level. Here are my questions:

1) What's a good (I'm not looking to get a 9700Pro) fanless video card?
2) What should I replace the chipset fan with?
3) I'm looking for the smallest case w/ 2 5 1/4" bays that I can get some decent airflow through...
4) The new Raptor WD drive has the same dba as the Barracuda IV (according to the StorageReview DB), but that's at idle. If I enclosure it with rubber, how quiet do you think it'd be?

I appreciate any advise!

I'm not sure about all of them, but I replaced my chipset fan with a simple heat sink from Zalman. Available at Sharkahere. Seems to work well, is definitely not hot to the touch.
