So i stumbled upon the article for the BTX form factor on wikipedia and it got me thinking...
Why didn't it ever take off?
It seams like the standard would have been excellent for silent PC enthusiasts with it being designed to facilitate unrestricted airflow and such. Even better yet im pretty sure it encouraged the use of only a few slow spinning fans to cool the system.
so anyone have any thoughts on it?

The push towards BTX was during a time that Intel's processors were getting extremely hot. If they had continued on with their Netburst architecture, it would have been a necessity for Intel to make BTX a commonly adopted standard.
AMD's processors had no overheating problems and eventually Intel got their heat/power problems sorted out with Core 2. In the end BTX simply didn't offer any compelling reasons to be adopted and so was left on the wayside, though some OEMs still use it (e.g. Dell).
