Mobile Celeron Motherboards

Post by p_UK » Sat Jun 07, 2003 6:46 pm

What sort of motherboard is required to run a Mobile Celeron (600mhz)? I think this Celeron is a socket 495? Can anyone confirm this? Are there socket 495 motherboards?

My current silentpc (fanless celeron 300) is falling to pieces and i'm thinking of upgrading.

Never mind 300Mhz to 600Mhz, think 300Mhz to 2.0+ GHz and you're rockin!

if you can get a completely fanless 2ghz working, i'd be interested in hearing about it. obviously, if i can get more performance without an increase in noise, i'll go for it.

i considered a mobile p4 system as i think some of these are pin compatible with normal motherboards. but i'm not sure if a fanless setup is possible.

is it possible to underclock a p4/p4m to say 1ghz?

i also thought that a p4 system @ 1ghz might be slower than the celeron @600mhz.

If the computer is just slow, I'd suggest Powerleap's Slot-1 adapters. You can use even 1.4 GHz Celeron or PIII, depending on the motherboard. Get a big HS, drop the bus to 66 MHz, undervolt, and You should have very minimal heat buildup. Not necessarily fanless, but say 80mm Panaflo @ 5V, or some duct work to utilize the PSU fan.

Cheers,

Jan
