sonata - front firewire

Post by JonA » Sun Jan 18, 2004 7:23 am

i recently got an antec sonata case -

im wanting to make use of the front firewire port

i do not however have firewire on my mobo -

i have a pci card but i cannot see any pins that i could attatch the cable to??

is there no way of feeding a cable out the rear of the case back in and to the front bay via an adapter of some kind??

or if not what pci cards have the pins so i can make use of it???

Yes, that would do the trick. Now all you have to do is find one.

Ralf, have you (or anyone else here) ever found such a PCI card? I've looked hard for one, and the best I've ever come up with is to use the firewire header pins on an Audigy card. This solution works, but only of course for self-powered devices...

Yup, I got a siig with internal connect (actual port, not a pin header). They have both out there, just got to search, ie:

Like mine:

This one has both internal ports & pin headers (usb2 & 1394 in one):

And others...

I was referring to a card with actual firewire pin-headers, and wow - you found one!

Ephemeral, in that second PCI-card link you gave, is the info "Pin header of Single port for cabling to front panel (Cable not included)"... :D

And Trip, your frontx link includes this great cable item which would work for routing front firewire connectors to an internal (or perhaps even external) card port! Frontx didn't have this item when I last checked with them.

Both of these items are great solutions for those having no firewire pin-header on their motherboard.

Thanks!

I know they exist but they aren't too easy to find, that's why I told JonA "good luck finding one", because I didn't feel like looking for one at the time :)
