I recently bought a new ssd, and was toying with getting a 950Pro, i opted for size more so, specially since the 850Pro has now a very mature firmware and performs really well among Sata III drives, i would probably given if they would have had a 1tb version, but to me the perforamnce difference are marginal, but having 1tb does set me up for a long time into software and games.

The real world performance gains just didn't justify the cost.

The tech is still young and temperatures still too high as tested by Puget Systems

To me it seems that it would become cost effective only in a high file usage scenario, otherwise the 850 Pro is better value for money.
And I have an issue with the placement of the M.2 connector on mobos, it's too close to either the CPU or GPU, while already running hot.
The 950 Pro has adequate thermal throttling, as opposed to the predecessors which made many owners unhappy, but for reliability I would prefer
running one of those from a PCI-E slot, including a nice heatsink. And there are solutions like that, but you'd lose a PCI-E slot.
I was wondering if it would be possible to have a M.2 cable, to connect just the cable to the mobo header and place the M.2 drive plus heatsink in a drive cage.

m.2 "cables" are only a few inches long at most.

While a cable extension will help a lot into the position, maybe even adding some heatsinks or a fan to it, i would like manufactuers to move on to Sata Express, most new mobos have them, and i have yet to see a 2.5 sata express intereface, not sure why, or if we will ever see a sata express sdd for consumers.

For power measurement. It even comes with a CSR for current measurement. Not sure what it cost though. Them a simple I x V for power.

NVMe SSDs have longer boot times because the motherboard has to initialize the NVMe lanes in order to boot off of the storage. AHCI SSDs don't have that problem.
