More InWin loving

Post by miyagi » Thu Jan 27, 2005 9:11 am

Specs:

Case - InWin V523 (AcoustiPack insulated)
CPU - AXP 3000+ (stock 2.16Ghz)
RAM - 1024MB PC2700 el-cheapo Kingston
MOBO - $60 Soyo board which should've been $8 but the bastards never responded to my rebate (and never will)
GFX - Sapphire R9800Pro (annoying stock fan)
HDD - 120gig Seagate 7200 ATA
CD/DVD - NEC 3500 16x DVD burner
PSU - Antec 300W PSU (very quiet, bit hot though)

Cooling:

Exhaust - 80mm Panaflo low-output @ 12v
CPU -Thermalright SLK-800 w/ above fan

Temps (ambient @ 21c):

IDLE

-Case 38c
-CPU 39c

LOAD

-Case 41c
-CPU 44c

(had CPU fan on suck for a while, and temps rocketed to 60c LOAD, 55C IDLE)

Pics (click for enlargement):

all the intake comes through the open floppy bay and cools the HDD awesomely

Todo:

-R9800 needs a new HS/Fan, probably the new Zalman VF700 AluCU w/ Fanmate
-Exhaust holes need to be chopped out, the V523 fits a 92mm in the rear so I may add a 92mm Panaflo @ 7v (if not a new fan, then the current one needs to be 7v'ed)
-Need some new IDE cables, they look horrific.
-New wallpaper.

I'd save your money. I kinda like your current wallpaper, it has that distressed, "fishing village" look to it. Plus, blue is supposed to be a calming color.

Hello:

Looks very good -- any thoughts about cutting out that rear fan grill?

Hah, yea I was thinking of Dremeling it out as I usually do. Although I think my Dremel died, got too hot cutting out a window, and some other stuff last summer. I guess I could always cut them out with something else.

I've been using masking tape to cover up the edges, doesn't really look too hot. Any idea on where to get the black rubber to cover stuff up? I was thinking about slicing up a thin black tube - but I don't have any lying around at the moment.

Here's what I'm on about, off Ralf's P4 box (is that heatshrink?):

And trust me, the wallpaper (actually it's some odd paint-job) looks godawful. But you might be right about the calming effect, I haven't broken my current keyboard in over a year - new record.

The black rubber could be obtained here http://www.bestbyteinc.com. Under Case Mods & Lightings - Window Kits - C-Strip. Also check this thread out for Cutting a hole in a case http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewto ... &view=next
