My quiet antec slk3000B rig

Here is my rig i have being using for the last 5 months:

Antec slk 3000B (with nexus damptek all around)
Amd athlon 64 3200+ winchester (CnQ enabled,standard Vcore)
Asus A8N-SLI (chipset fan replaced with zalman heatsink)
2*512mb Corsair 3200XL (2.7v)
Asus geforce 6600GT (with zalman VF-700CU)
Nexus nx-4090 400 watt psu
Creative audigy 2 zs souncard
Segate barracude 7200.7 160 gb (with nexus disktwin)
Nec 3500A dvd-writer

Thermalright XP-120 cpu heatsink with papst 1600rpm fan
Nexus 120mm back case fan (mounted on rubber grommets)

The antec slk 3000B,really nice case i think!

Here you can see the openings in the side panel. It help's alot for keeping your cpu and vga cool but alot of sound escapes true it unfortunately.
Also the cpu blowhole isn't large enoug to cover the 120mm cpu fan.
You can't see it on the picture but I also installed extra rubber feets underneath the case to keep vibration at a minimum

The case open: the cables aren't that tidy but it doesn't affect airflow i think because i don't have a front fan.

A nice view of the three 1200mm fans. Gotta love the size!

Zalman VF-700CU vga cooler and zalman heatsink on the northbridge.
Unfortunately when the VF-700Cu's fan is at 5V the northbridge heatsink get's very hot. At 12V no problem.

Back view of the case. The nexus fan is mounted on verax rubber grommets. The fan doesn't touch the case at all.

2 zalman fanmates at the back to regulate the nexus case fan and papst cpu fan.

When i put the fan's at 5 volt I can barely hear my computer overday. At night's it is noticable but absolutely not annoying. No high pitch,only the sound of moving air.

At 12 volt it is noticable overday but again no high pitch. I must say what I find weird is that changing the cpu fan from 12V to 5V doesn't lower the sound that much,but changing the VF-700Cu's fan from 12V to 5V decreases the sound much more.

Overall I'm very happy with this setup. The only thing I regret is not having
the new Nforce boards with heatpipe cooling because the northbridge can get very hot! Else I could have overclocked it very much while keeping a low noise pc.

Nice! You haven't by any chance considered running the CPU fanless, with some rigorous undervolting? With an XP120, a Winchester, and two 120mm fans as exhausts, you should stand a decent chance.

Out of interest what HDD temp are you getting with the DiskTwin in 5.25" bays ?

How much vibration is transferred to the case?

I have got a similar setup and been looking and considering the DiskTwin for a while.

The disktwin doesn't stop much vibrations. It's only now a little bit quieter than when my HD was in the drive cage. But it does help alot for keeping the drive cool. I don't really monitor it frequently but I think it never goes above 45C and I don't have any airflow over it.

Why not tape those blowholes closed? You did all that other work to silence the machine, close those babies!

does taping blowholes really improve quietness? or do you need some type of foam?

OK, WOW that XP-120 is HUGE. Seeing that has me changing my order to an XP-90. Good to know since I'm planning to get that same case!

So how do you like the Damptek? Is it as effective at soaking up noise as Acoustipack?

Have someone tape your blowhole, then try to speak.

(What you'll find is that just like the hole in the case, the sound of air passing through the hole is removed but internal noise still radiates through the tape.
