my new rig

Post by h0nke » Wed Nov 22, 2006 12:55 pm

Here is the specs on my new rig im building. Not going for silence, but a good balance of quiet and cool. Parts are on the way, I will be posting pics as I go along.

Abit KN9 Ultra Socket AM2
AMD Athlon64 X2 5200+
Zalman CNPS 9500 cpu cooler
Corsair XMS2 (1GBx2) DDR2800 4-4-4-12 2.1v
SPCR Black P180 case
Corsair XH520W psu
XFX 7900GT 256MB with Zalman VF900 cooling
2 x WD Caviar RE 160mb 72k rpm 16meg cache raid 0

Im going to experiment first with antec's tri-cools that come with the p180 and see how they do. Maybe switch them out and add a few more if need be. Thats it for now.

I'd like to make a request of all people, in general...

Stop telling us what you're going to be putting together. Wait until you take pictures and then SHOW us.

I'm pretty sure it's called the Gallery, because you see pictures in galleries.

so what's the big rush? It's not like no-one's ever seen a P180 or a CNPS9500 before.

LOL, guys please calm down.

Gallery or not, this still a forum, that means we discuss and dont order.

Looks like a nice system, you will probably be able to pull the 120x38mm fan out of the bottom and seal the vents around the PSU at the back of the case. You might find that your 2 remaining tri-cools are noisy, I did.

See how it goes, and let us know with or without pictures.

Well, it now has one (a Zalman) instead of the awful stock cooler.

h0nke- Let us know what the tricools are like- a lot of people find them too loud, your work may not be done yet.

Replaced stock cooler with zalman 900 copper heatpipe cooler and vga ram heatsinks.

Look at the vid card in the first pic on the mobo, you can see the stock cooler still on it.

For sure, I have run them before with other antec cases. I would have no problem switching out all the 120mm fans to some nice quiet scythe's. We will see tonight.

Yeah, the S-Flex is good, but you can get 3 Yate Loons for the price of one of those Scythes from jab-tech.com, which are probably as good or better.

How are you finding the stock fan on the CNPS9500?

They are pretty good. Imo a little noiser then Nexus Real Silent 120mms, but move a bit more air, My one runs at 1300rpm compared to the speced 1200rpm which could explain that. Apparently they are inconsistent though (some are noiser then others), where as the Nexus are more consistent in build quality. I can't really speak for that as i only have the one scythe.
