e8400 + Solo + Sonex Mini Willtec Foam

Post by mackworth » Wed Mar 25, 2009 6:43 pm

Hey everyone, here is my current build:

Image

Specs:

E8400 at @3.2 w/ mini ninja
4 GB Ram
WD 320 gig HD
Radeon 4850 w/ thermalright HR-03 GT
Corsair tx650
D-link 802.11n wireless card
Sonex Mini Willtec Foam
6x blueray + dvd burner

I dremmeled out the fan grill and put some rubber around the edges. Fan is the 1200 RPM slipstream.

I have a 92mm in the front, I forget which model.

I did the same thing to the front, cut out the grills.

Pic of the front.

Overall I think the power supply is the loudest part. Don't know if I feel like spending any money to make it quieter ;)

The foam was well worth it. I am pretty sensitive to high pitched noises, and the foam does a really good job taking care of that, the HD is now pretty quiet.

You can see info about the foam here:

Very nice! :) I have a couple of questions.

1) How are your temps? Especially on that 4850.
2) What's the model name of the Blu-Ray drive you got? How has it worked in your experiences?

Thanks.

Nice work, a little cable management advice from a fellow Solo owner...

- You can hide alot of your cables by tucking them into an unused drive bay. I'm talking mostly about the gargantuan power cable.
- You can hide your hard drive cables a bit by putting your hard drive in backwards. No worries about the SATA and power cables hitting the 92mm fan in front if you tuck them over or under the hard drive.

I noticed in your last pic there you also have that dirty white fingerprint stuff on the front of the case. I've noticed many Solo's have that, including mine, and I was wondering how you remove it.

I tried rubbing alcohol but the stains wont even budge!

Nice little setup ! I llike the foam thing...
How about those temps ??? and how fast are the fans spinning ???
Interested because I plan on upgrading to a E8400/ninja and a 260/4870 video card.
Thanks !
