Group Buy for sorbothane?
In case you don't know what it is...
It is piece of solid sheet or (whatever it is formed) that GREATLY reduces vibration, or considered one of best isolation method short of more exotic method. Many high end audio equipment usually uses this material on various parts as well as electronics used in environment where shock and vibration might cause failure.
It is much much better absorber than polyurethene, etc. However, the cost or availability is not as good. One common use we see are higher priced shoe insole. (they use harder one for form than what we should be looking into so it will be even softer).
You can find more about it by going http://www.sorbothane.com
I've been browsing around and find it disappointing that most places will way overcharge for this stuff as it is for rather specialized market. (cheapest I found was 12"x12"x1/8" for $15.95 before shipping etc which isn't bad but too thin to utilize it in all it's glory)
Now the product i have in mind is 5"x5"x1/2" for $9 in quantities of 25-99 (higher number much cheaper) Direct from them before shipping.
Another option would be 5"x5"x1/4" for $5.58 in quantities of 25-99 (if more price reduces decently)

Obviously I have no use for 25 of it I would like to know who might be interested in this product. I myself have plans to comsnume about 5-6 of these
(These are best thing to isolate your pump from case or decoupling noisy hdd, or even shock proofing your in car computer system, etc )
Just post up here on your level of interest and if it looks good we can progress from there on

Have you checked out the selection at McMaster Carr ?
A quick search for sorbothane and I find they have a 4"x4"x1/2" sheet of soft 40 durometer for $7.61. I'm quite sure that's the sheet of stuff I picked up, works great. And that's about the same price you're seeing direct. No minimum purchase.

Mcmaster no longer carries Sorbothane.
If you look at your search results Zyzzyx, you'll see that they sneakily redirected your search to polyurethane instead. I've never bought the 40 duro polyurethane, so I'm not sure how it compares to actual Sorbothane. Sorbothane is a brand name for a specific formulation of polurethane.

i just bought a sheet from www.britishaudio.co.uk - £13 for a 6x6 inch sheet. Hasn't arrived yet though. Is a small Stanley knife sufficient to cut through it?
While browsing through the web I found a german shop who says he sells sorbothane.
Here is a link http://www.dienadel.de/lshop,showdetail ... 56356,.htm
I'm not sure if it's really sorbothane. Can you perhaps have a look.

Don't know what they charge for shipping, but these Black Hole isolation dots look pretty cheap and could always be cut down to size:

yeah, but it's not so much "cutting" - imagine dried rubber cement, or fresh silicone caulking. it compresses and squishes around and generally avoids the knife, and even if you cut it in a straight line the cross section might still end up hourglass-shaped from being compressed while it was cut. putting it in a freezer for a while first can help, i do that + use a new scalpel to cut it. garden shears or even a pizza cutter might work better, been too lazy to try thoughas530 wrote:i just bought a sheet from www.britishaudio.co.uk - £13 for a 6x6 inch sheet. Well total of 4 people interested in it other than me for this. I am going to have to drop the idea and just grab over priced sorbothane and get on with my life. In my case, it was to tame the 2 waterpump I have which isn't too noisy but need really good isolation to further reduce the sound (MCP600x2) Foam does work to certain degree but not good enough and isn't as permanent method of attachment. I might gvie it a shot with one in mcmaster carr which is polyuerethane but I have some reservation on that until I get to try.
Don't give up on foam. They are not all the same. Try the stuff I used in this thread:
