Skeleton
I can't recall (ever) a usable article on PC EMI shielding. As a suggestion, surely this is only an issue for AC components? So our PSUs are burdened with a whole series of approvals and consequent logos, but I don't recall anything similar for a mobo or HDD. But little fingers & pets remain a possible issue.Cistron wrote:Hmm, I'm wondering about the EU (CE) electric shielding requirements (or something along those lines, I'm a layman for electrics). Will those be met?
Seem there are some shops looking for suckers to gouge in the UK - e.g. here and here! I have been pondering this 'case' but really want to know whether my Xigmatek 1283 will fit, and would also like to see the possibilities to tidy the cabling of a working system. I vote Ralf Hutter does the SPCR review
P183 availability
I just received the e-mail from Scott Richards from Antec:Compddd wrote:Any news on P183?
"The P183 should be available in December or early January. The October mentioned the SilentPC article was for production. Once production begins it generally takes six to eight weeks for product to arrive in our European warehouses."
So... We have to wait 2 months more...

From what I have understood the Antec P183 is fixing previous design problems, but doesn't really bring anything new and exciting, right? The Sonata Elite is a poor implementation to have the Sonata series still running (air ventilation for HDDs? Looks like a great place for dust to hide + the only intake takes air from the back!). Skeleton... must I say anything? I mean it is so over-priced one would be better off with NO case at all. Actually the market it is targeting should realize that this kind of system simply will not work. I guess they'll get it (that the case sucks) after a week's use when the Skeleton blasts dust everywhere in their room and puts out a lot of heat from the components making the room temperate a few degrees higher.

Sure it's all there in front of you naked and your two GeForce GTX 260 SLI will surely make your gaming sessions much warmer than when putting them inside a typical case (exhaust fans especially at the top are good in blasting hot air up faster than it would get up with just ventilation holes).HammerSandwich wrote:Do you really believe the Skeleton can generate dust and heat? Plus if you take a can of sand and pour the sand on the Skeleton (DO NOT DO AT HOME) then be sure to have sand EVERYWHERE in your room versus pouring sand inside a typical PC case. But hey, who will pour sand in a case anyway? I do!
errmm... my irony detectors are obviously giving off false positives, as I thought your earlier comment to this effect was meant tongue-in-cheek.LodeHacker wrote:Sure it's all there in front of you naked and your two GeForce GTX 260 SLI will surely make your gaming sessions much warmer than when putting them inside a typical case (exhaust fans especially at the top are good in blasting hot air up faster than it would get up with just ventilation holes).
If you give it a few minutes thought, plus a quick rescan of the laws of thermodynamics (not to mention my own patented "Slob's Guide to Household Dust Redistribution") it will soon become apparent that your argument doesn't fly.

I just received the e-mail from Antec as following
"Hi
It turns out the P183 will arrive in the distribution channel around mid march - a little bit later than expected. Since we always want to bring the best quality products with the best design on the market, it can happen that some products launches are a bit delayed sometimes. I am sure you understand that

I have been planning a new PC around a p182, with no idea it was about to be replaced. I have seen only one picture of the front of the new case and my first thought was "they ruined it." In doing some web searches, it's obvious I'm not alone in my opinion. Antec has Aztec'ed the p182. I want to see a photo the of the actual case that's coming out, so I can decide whether to snatch up a p182 now, or wait for the p183. They made a couple of nice changes but those changes aren't worth the ugly shnoz they showed back in June. I'm just wondering if the case isn't late because they did a redesign after all the negative feedback. One can only hope.
P183 on Antec web page already
I found info about P183 on Antec web page:
http://www.antec.com/ec/productDetails.php?ProdID=09184#
P/N (UPC#) is: 0761345--
They have some pictures too:

So, it's coming!

skeleton revue anytime?
Hey, so I've read a bunch of reviews on the Skeleton case from other places, and they all say roughly the same stuff, that the open frame gives you a lot of airflow to keep things cool, and the big fan on top is pretty quiet. Of course, without an SPCR review, it's not really clear how quiet is actually is. Any chance of getting a good SPCR review for it? I'm really intrigued with the Skeleton.
:P
lol, for some reason when I saw this I just imagined it attached upside down on the ceiling, in the middle of the ceiling with a server board attached to it only. It's an alien mobo shrine!
Beware..
Edit: you could also do pull ups on it if its rendered useless.
