Antec Solo Mod: Down Psu Chamber

Post by sub » Mon Mar 29, 2010 1:32 pm

Hi there,

Like a lot of folks here I think the solo is a great case but needs some improvements to be the perfect silent case and been thinking to mod with a thermal separate chamber for the PSU like on the P180's

Fanless or semi-passive PSU like the Seasonic X-650 are very expensive and i'm on a budget, so thermoregulated psu Here I am !

So tell me what do you think:

P.S I don't like too mutch the psu duct in the 5" 1/4 bay, the clearance between the PSU and the top of the case is less than a centimeter and I've put be quiet noise-dampening mat on it.

I love the Solo, I've bought it two times.

In my humble opinion it doesn't need a separate PSU chamber (as Lawrence Lee has written for SPCR, today it's almost obsolete), when paired with an enough quiet PSU (I mean something like: Enermax Liberty Eco/Eco 80+, Pro/Modu82+, Nexus Value 430, NX5000-R3, Silverstone Element, Corsair VX450, HX520, Seasonic S12-II/M12-II, and so on). They're not cheap but half the quoted Seasonic X650.

Regards,
Luca

Did you drill out rivets and then rebuild the case?

Not yet, Only drill the horizontal bar, I just play with Paint for the backplate
