Sonata airflow & fan noise

Post by Shad0 » Thu Apr 15, 2004 3:24 am

I've been reading about sonata mods for a while, but today I juste read a few articles on SPCR about fan choice and airflow...
I am wondering if having unbalanced pressure in a case (ie too positive or too negative) will impact the fan(s) noise...
Is having a 80mm S3 noiseblocker intake in front (low speed) helping reduce the 120mm rear fan noise ?
And for the 120mm fan, is the noiseblocker SX1 any good ?
Since I'm in Europe I don't think I can find Panaflo fans easily...

If you're going with Noiseblocker fans I would get the 120mm SX2 Pro Blacksilence. It is as good as inaudible at 5v, much better than the SX1.

The 80mm S3 isn't all that quiet. I have a few S2's which are pretty good at 5v. For the intake on a sonata (or should I say to cool the hdd) and S1 would probably be sufficient, but since the sonata takes a 2nd 120mm fan I'd probably go with another SX2 Pro @ 5v.

Is the SX2 Pro the same as SX2 ?
On the site where I buy fans (http://www.pc-look.com/boutik/Cat_Refro ... 40_91.html)
, there's only the SX2 with 34dB nominal... is that one ok at 5V ?

No. The SX2 and SX2 pro are very different. If you can't get the SX2 pro then the SX1 is the next best 120mm NB fan. The standard SX2 is loud
