can't buy the Antek Sonata without that psu? other suggestio

Post by earworm » Sun Oct 24, 2004 4:09 am

i'm interested in the antek sonata,
but too bad it already has a psu built in,
they don't sell that case without the psu, do they?
would save me some money and i got another psu i wanna use anyway

so what other option does that leave me?

is there a case that you can compare directly to the Sonata,
made by another brand or so that does come without psu?

thanx

Directron.com will remove it and sell you the case without the PSU.

I was gonna post this a few hours ago but the site went down:

You can buy it from Directron and leave out the PSU which will save you a whopping $5.

You can buy the complete case and resell the PSU on ebay to recoup some of your money.

You could mod the Antec PSU by changing the fan. Many here at SPCR have done this with good results.

Personally, I think the Antec SLK3700AMB is a superior case, but it also comes with a PSU. It's $30 cheaper than the Sonata though, even with it's included PSU.

Umm, Directron.com. :)

Just browse to the Sonata page and look in the PSU's dropdown menu. It's at the bottom.

thanx alot,
i read lots of 'changing' comments on the sonata, they all were good but i guess that in the end choosing a case is kinda personal,
and mr Hutter, "" I think the Antec SLK3700AMB is a superior case"""

why do you call it superior, is it concerning the Noize level?

i got one DVd writer, one harddisc, nothing fancy in my pc,
its only built for recording audio, even the soundcard is external,
so it doesn't have to be big or so....

can you be a little more specific

appreciate it !
cheers

The front intake arrangement on the 3700 is far superior to the Sonata's, which, rather than placing intake fan behind the front bezel to pull air in, is placed behind the internal 3.5" drive cage, thus doing a better job of swirling air chaotically through the case innards than pulling cool air in.

As a Sonata owner I agree. It's a good case, loads better than my previous ones, however the intake does suck pretty bad.

and eek Ralf. $5 savings. Rawr.

BTW Ralf you have Paypal :)

did some investigation,

SLK3700BQE and SLK3700AMB

the AMB is like €20 cheaper, and i don't notice much difference between the two, is it just the color that's different?

New variant of 3700AMB with improved front & back grills and side mounted HDDS like Sonata case.

For lots of specific info, read my review of the 3700AMB and also the review of the 3700BQE on the main site. Compare them to the review of the Sonata on the main site.

Synopsis for the lazy:

The 3700AMB has better airflow than the Sonata which makes it easier to run quiet. It's also easier to work in/on.

It's specific case dependent. The BQE they return ~$27.00.
