Thermaltake follows Antec, redesigns the Tsunami!

Post by Ralf Hutter » Sat Jan 15, 2005 5:59 am

Behold, the Soprano, a steel version of the Tsunami.

Never one to miss out on a trend, TT has released a slightly revised version of the Tsunami called the "Soprano" (?). Constructed of steel for the ultimate in noise reduction and painted Piano Black. They even include a polishing cloth with it, just like Rolls-Royce does...

ROFL

I was half expecting a Sonata or P-180 clone.

Other gems include :
"EMI protection spring"
"Patented sliding rail design for easy 5.25’’ devices installation"
"Cooling System
Front (intake)
120x120x25 mm, 1400rpm, 21dBA
Rear (exhaust)
120x120x25 mm, 1400rpm, 21dBA
Side (intake)
90x90x25 mm,1800rpm, 21dBA."
21 dBA is the magic number it seems.

Wtf?!? I'm Chinese American and that statement can't possibly make sense in any of the three languages I know! It's incredible that such a big company still has such bad Engrish problems...

Same here! If they did then I would forgive their bad Engrish, now they're just stupid.

Average guy in the computer store: "Now what was the name of that case I saw somewhere... Opera..Sonata..Aria?.. nah I think it was Overture..
ah there it is! Soprano, lucky me they still have them in stock!"

Calling it Soprano, heh, that's so cheap!!!

Heh....Thermaltake/Antec. Sort-of like Fords and Chevrolets. Big sellers, everybody buys them, overlooking better products from smaller companies.

I love my Ford and I couldn't find a better product from a smaller company.

I've seen the aluminum version of this case in person and it has a very cheap look to it. It looks like all the plastic and huge window is in tact here as well...

ROFL, you are so right, I dont know where they come up with this 21dBA rating its soooo of the mark. I have used many thermaltake products myself and for friends, and none of them are that quiet! In one quiet computer I had, the loudest source of noise was the 21dBA rated SilentBoost copper cooler hahaha.

Thermaltake stuff is designed for inefficient cooling at the expense of noise.

The ONLY ThermalTake product I have EVER owned was a Silent Boost. Then I found this place, and... yah. Let's just say it never saw the light of day nor made its way into my computer. EVER. AGAIN.

How does Tt get away with this? Aren't there patents and stuff that protect infringement on design parameters?

Believe it or not, orange fans are one of the few things that Tt didn't steal from another manufacturer. It's sort of been a Tt trademark for years now, way before I ever saw a Yate Loon.

Ok this bit should give the Tt haters something to smile about :
Cooltechzone
" With our aftermarket Thermaltake Venus 12 heatsink installed on our MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard and our BFG 6800 OC graphics adapter, we could not install any hard drives in four of the six slots because either the heatsink or the graphics adapter was in the way! Our test machine had three hard drives, and we had to rig it so that we installed the boot drive in one of the external bays"

HD bay access requires the removal of MB or HS (risky to mount heatsinks not on a bench).

Sounds kind of, ummmmm..... inconvenient? Hey! What if they put a Schooner on the graphics card? Then they would have even less room!

See? I own one of Thermaltake's products, am happy with it (so far), and they are *still* fun to make fun of!
