Well, I'm using the old version PC7 which I must say give a very good airflow. The problem is front bazel allows internal noise to come out too much. In short, trying to cool it is not a problem, trying to quiet it down is a challenge.

I think PC 7 SE is also called PC 7 Plus - so you may search for that. 2 things I like about 'updated' design a) 120 mm front fan instead of 2x80 mm (exhaust fan is still 80mm), and b) 2x3.5" bay instead of 3 - this give some more room internally.

Edit: Oops, forgot the customary Welcome to SPCR!!! murphf :D

Both fans appear to be large ones (12 cm/inch?). I figured they could be run slowly. So the main problem would be the holes in the front?

BTW, thanks for the warm (not too silent) welcome!

If they make a version of this with the removable motherboard tray I would seriously consider it with the P-180, a bit harder to quiet down but good airflow and I like the removable tray. 8)

That is what I wanted three years ago, I may favor the P-180 now though, I like the PSU channel and dampened case material.

Talz, I think they also give this 'update' to their PC60 line which is similar to PC7 plus removable MB tray. 8)

Btw, they now have a kit for CPU duct too. 8) 8)

Normally Lian Li come without PSU. I guess they know that people who spend this kind of money are choosey and would like to choose components themselves.

I found a review of the PC 7 plus, which from the looks of it is exactly the same as the SE (one name for the US and another one for the European market?)

http://www.overclockercafe.com/Reviews/ ... /index.htm

It appears that - from what I've learned lurking at this forum - that the non removable hard disk mount will be likeliest source of "noise worry".

Does anyone see a simple solution for that?

Edit: here's a (French) review of a guy that likes close up pictures. From this review (its pictures) it appears that the hard disk mount can be removed. The reviewer sais both front and back fans are certfied at 16 Db.

On my PC7, the Hdd cage can be removed since it's held with screws. Given that PC 7 Plus has only 2 x 3.5" bay, you'll have more room for Hdd suspension. Study this sticky which will give you plenty of options/details.

I'm not sure about 16 Db(A?) 120 mm fan though.

As I have said in other forums about this case, I own this case and to sum things up its not bad.

Pros
-Great Airflow
-Grills are removeable
-Looks great
-PSU removable from back
-lightweight
-Easy to use

Cons
-front grill lets out too much noise
-Aluminum noise
-not tool less
-no removable motherboard tray
-Hdd cage not removable (riveted on one side)

My new system is not quite quite yet but my old setup was good enough for me.

Bottom Line Good LAN case but not great for total silence

My old setup btw was
1 Yate loon 120 in back
Modded vantec Ion psu with yate loon 120
athlon 2400+ with yate loon 80mm
Zalman HP cooler on Graphics
HDD hardmounted (I was still trying to figure out how to suspend it)
Melimine dampaning
and I have the windowed version also

I have this case, with the window, and it is great! My only problem is the HDD bay, but you can suspend your HDD in the 5.25 bays, or if you have one, you can suspend it above the HDD rack. However, I am planning on dremeling all of it out, except for one bay, where I will put a FDD. And yes, I know it won't be accessible without opening my case, but who uses FDDs these days?

EDIT: BTW, the fans are loud, but they run quiet and decent airflow at 7 volts. Also, prego_lala, you can get this case at Cable Crazy. That is where I got mine, and in perfect condition. And I am not a CC representative. Promise.

EDIT 2: Upon closer inspections, the 3.5 bay IS removable with a screwdriver! 10 more points to LL!
