Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

New case from Gigabyte - 3d Aurora

Post by Anodyne » Tue Jul 19, 2005 5:14 am

Has anyone seen this new case from Gigabyte?

Has kind of a nice look to it and uses three 120 mm fans; Also special pass-through ports on the back for watercooling. Might be interesting. Big opening on the side panel to let air in and noise out, though.

It looks very interesting. As for the side panel, that can easily be covered up with, say, acoustic dampening foam!

My only complaint is the front intake and how the cover for it juts out so much. Can cause noise to leak out, as the bigger vents are on the sides. If Gigabyte made the cover for the intake match the style of the door, then it would look better.

I like it. I wonder how the build quality is though.

My main criticisms would be the aluminum material and the airflow impeding HDD cages. I would imagine that the side vents are the primary source of airflow, so that front 120mm fan may be needed to cool the drives properly. It does look like it breaths quite well though...

It's the first case I've noticed that has two 120 mm fans at the rear, although I don't keep track of every case that is out there.

it is made of 1 mm instead of 2mm.

for non spcr cases, 1 mm is great stuff, super light and nice looking detail.

for spcr id say 2 mm minimum with mass loaded vinyl on the interior door and the back wall.

I miss aluminum cases

A bit large for my taste, though I can see using it as a workgroup server chassis. If you look this up on the Gigabyte website, it even includes a "Discretely located internal toolbox ideal for storage."
