Sonata II Vibrating noise

Post by mattek » Sun Oct 09, 2005 2:57 am

Recently got the system you can see in my sig. When I added two 160GB Hitachi drives in a RAID1 config the noise from the system took a turn for the worse. Now I have a an extremely annoying vibrating humming noise as well as a more high-pitched metallic rumbling that comes and goes.

The noise seem to come from the sidepanels of the case.

I'm not a hardcore modder so I was thinking of doing something like this:

1. Vinyl floortiles on sidepanels.
2. Adding some kind of Acoustimat product.

Question: Which one of these are options is more likely to fix my problem?
Question: Can I add vinyl to both of the sidepanels since one of them is not removeable on the Sonata II?
Question: I have considered suspension, would it be worthwhile. If so does it make the other mods redundant?

Thanks a bunch,

Yes and yes.

The other mods might help some with your problem, but in the end suspension (or some other decoupling) of the disks is bound to be the most effective option.

Thanks!

It is also the solution that does the least permanent damage/changes to my case. If I'm not happy with it is easy to go back.

Now I gotta get to a hardware store and find some worthy rubberbands.

Thanks,
