Antec P180 case fans

Post by Stephen » Mon Jan 02, 2006 6:38 am

I just recently got the P180 case. I have seen several comments in various forumes about replacing the TriCool fans with Panaflows and/or Cooler Master fans. I have also seen references to a Vantec vibration dampening kit for fans.

I would like to hear from others with the P180 case in terms of what you have done with the fans.

The tri-cool fans are not bad (not great either).... but I did not like the fact that you had to use a 4-pin to 3-pin adapter or string a molex to the fan so I replaced them with Coolermaster Neon LED Fan 120x120mm TLF-S12-BLUE. These work very well for me hooked up to the ZALMAN ZM-MFC1 fan controller.

How do they compare in terms of noise level?

My initial impression was the noise quality of the Coolermaster fan at 12v was much better than the tri-cool at 12v (I think the tri-cools are rated for more cfm/rpm than the coolermaster), I did not bother to compare them at lower volts/rpm's because I already knew I wasn't going to use the tri-cools. As I stated earlier, I am happy with them, other people might not be.

Do you know anything about the Vantec vibration dampening kit for fans?

You mean the thin silicone stuff? That is pretty useless.

Get the Nexus boxed kit an enpcnoise or the verax sticks from veraxfans.com. The "long" isolators will enable you to mount fans with closed flanges.

the tricool fans are NOT silent. i guess they're somewhat quiet, but i wish i had ordered nexus or yate loon fans. they're not very high quality...

let me elaborate:
seasonic 430
7700alcu on lowest
vf700cu on 5v
1x 7200.8 250gb hd
2x tricool fans on lowest

the tricool fans by FAR are the loudest (besides the hd seek). the next loudest part is the 7700...and i'm very dissapointed by that. i expected more from a zalman.
