HD suspension in a p180?

Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

HD suspension in a p180?

Post by johnnq » Tue Jan 03, 2006 1:37 pm

has anybody tried it? can it be done? i have a 250gb 7200.8 and the seek noise is very auidible (but relatively quiet). people say that the p150 practically eliminates hd noise and i would definitely like to do the same in my p180.

Anything can be done.. But i cant think of an easy way to suspend drives in the P180, other than drill holes in the sides of the lower chamber cage and you could suspend two drives.

The P180 is HUGE, but in practice its pretty small inside. I have a P180 atm, the P150 is lying on my bed waiting for me to move the parts from the P180 to the P150. Im waiting to see how the neo HE works, if it works..

no one has done a hard drive suspension in the lower chamber as far as I know. Unfortunately the desgin takes the opportunity to do any easy DIY hd project.

If you are willing to use the drive trays in the middle level, you might consider this hard drive mounting method:

I've suspended a scythe silent box in the bottom bay. a had to dremel the front a bit so there was enough room for the drive to hang suspended without touching side walls. case is fully acoustipacked tool. drive is a samsung sata.
