Ninja in an NSK3300?

Post by simbloke » Wed Jul 12, 2006 4:31 am

Hi,

I'm considering trying to squeeze a Ninja into the Antec NSK3300.

As far as I can tell it depends on how close the CPU is to the top side of the motherboard. Can anyone say how far the cpu needs to be away from the edge for the Ninja to not overhang the edge of the board?

I am considering 6100/6150 based M-ATX boards. If anyone knows of a board where the CPU position is Ok then please let me know.

Regards,
Sim

I just fitted a Ninja in my NSK3300. It worked out quite nice, did some modding to the case so it would fit my needs.
I had a Zalman 7700AlCu before, and if you can fit that to the mainboard without having it sticking out over the edge then it will work.

I have a MSI K8NGM2-IL mainboard. Link > http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/ ... hp?UID=702

That board has a CPU retainer ring that's spaced well away from the edge of the board. Many mobos these days snuggle the retainer up against the side of the board, which may be a problem for mounting the Ninja (and some other HSFs) in the 3300.

Perhaps someone with a 3300 and such a mobo can enlighten us?

The fins of the Ninja are 110x110mm. The cooler has a symmetrical design. The retention bracket is symmetrical too. So the centre of the CPU socket has to be 55mm from the edge of the board.

But the fan is 120mm (excluding the clips). So unless there is 5mm between the edge of the mobo and the top compartment, you'll have to find an alternative to mount the fan, if the centre of the socket is exactly 55mm from the edge of the board.

I have about an inch between the Ninja and the top wall, but then all the cables must also fit between.

I havn't used the fan mounts that were with the Ninja, but instead modded 2 120mm fans into a fanduct to the rear fan mount on the case.
