Computer Desk Cabinet

Post by gevorg » Sat Jul 22, 2006 12:11 am

Hi all,

My computer is inside a wooden cabinet with a front opening and back holes for ventilation. How can I damp the interior walls of the cabinet to lower computer fan noise? The fans are 120mm, 500-1500rpm. I found various options here:

but I'm not sure what is the right thing for my purposes, or if there is anything better.

I appreciate any feedback/suggestions,

Usually, the heavier the better for vibrations. So, the heavy automotive sheets will be best, since wood is alive and vibrating.

Are you mostly hearing the hissing of air, or vibration sounds from the fans being in contact with the cabinet? If I'm not mistaken, different materials would be used to address each (and decoupling the vibrating bits in the latter case).

I'm just hearing the sound of fans, not case vibrations.
