Recommend? V1000B Plus II vs V1200B Plus II vs G70B

Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

Recommend? V1000B Plus II vs V1200B Plus II vs G70B

Post by acaurora » Tue Nov 14, 2006 8:20 am

I currently have a P180 Black SPCR Edition, and as much as I love its looks... the size is just too huge. When I moved from my home in Elk Grove to the University of California Merced, it was such a hassle to move because of its size and weight. I have been looking in the market to build a new computer, and figured that a new case would be a wise choice. So far I have narrowed it down to :

Lian Li V1000B Plus II
Lian Li V1200B Plus II (most places have it being the same price as the V1000BPlus II, so why not get more space for the same price?)
G70B

The ironic thing is, most of these cases are actually about the same size as the P180 that I have (and in the case of the G70B, even BIGGER!). Would it be worth something to buy one of these cases, because wouldn't the aluminum casing be lighter? Or should I look for something else? I want to have a case that has the same clean look as teh P180, but smaller/lighter....

Also, would having any of these Lian Li's mean I need to dust it more often since I don't see any dust filters anywhere on these?

This may sound ironic but...

It looks plain =[... ????

EDIT: Also, the 2 x 92 mm in the front isn't something I"m happy with... I am going to be putting a lot of stuff in here (six, yes, you heard me, SIX, HDDs... somehow i'm going to fit them all in there, despite there being room for only 4, PLUS a 7900GTX). If you know of a case that is like that, but with a 120mm in the front that's NOT another P180... ^.^...

maybe I should just stick with my P180... although it is rather large and heavy =[...

EDIT2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835185031

If i were to go with the solo, would you recommend that for an intake fan (x2, since it has 2x mounts?) Or the Antec TriCool 92mm?

Even Lian-Li cases are heavy once you load them up with goodies. The P180 is just especially big and heavy, though I know of nothing better for keeping a very complicated system cool and quiet. I just wish it was up to the build quality of Lian-Li, without all the floppy cheap plastic parts (esp. the door retention hooks, my friend broke them in no time flat) all over.

Are u 200% sure u have to change case?

The change would gain u little. Unless u move a lot as Lian Li is great for lan party goers. Can u not get/borrow some equipment that makes the move easier instead, so you don't have to carry it in your arms?

You have to stuff a Lian Li case with at least 10KG of Bitumen anyway to get it quiet.

No you don't, 6KG is more than enough! :P No seriously, Lian Li cases are much thicker and sturdier than cheap aluminium cases. And build quality is way better than any other case i've used. Bye Bye Antec

The V1200 is quite a bit longer. Mostly likely it won't do you any extra good.

I've had my PC-V1000 for a year now and it's a pleasure to work in. The dust isn't bad - no worse than any other case. There is a filter on the front fan.

You have room for 6 fans in stock locations or 4 suspended.

the thing with the v1000/1200 series is... that, they vibrate horribly when using the optical drive. installing windows or whatever off a cd is just crazy. the case acts like its possessed. and try and watch a DVD, forget it, unless you use nero drivespeed to slow the disc down.

You're never going to have silence with six HDs.

If silence is what you want in a smaller case, you choose the P150/Solo and you upgrade to buy some larger hard drives.

The aluminum panels in the Lian Li v1000/v1200 resonate like mad. They amplify noise rather than reducing it. DVD-ROM and CD-ROM noise on those models is particularly bad, as the above poster mentioned.
