Antec Solo LEDs

Post by Jarrett » Tue Feb 06, 2007 6:22 pm

Are there pics anywhere of what this looks like in a dark room? Is it annoyingly bright? I like the LEDs on the 3700BQE, they are dim, almost too dim for the HD indicator. What colour are the LEDs on the Solo? I'll end up leaving it on most of the time. I've seen pics all over the net of this case but I'm amazed there's none "in practise". Thanks for any pics you could take. :D

I think so, particularly the hard drive when there's a fair bit of activity (ie flashing), which can light up a small room, and certainly distract someone trying to sleep.

I agree with CoolGav, they are way too bright and can be very annoying. I simply disconnected the drive indicator. I installed a bit of paper cut to fit to dim the power light some.

Blue LEDs are cool but they are way to intense for night time unless you just want everybody including the folks on the ISS to know how cool you are. Just too damn bright.

However, I would suggest you let that keep you from considering the SOLO, it really is a great little case. Of course, the styling is what it is, if you don't like sleek, minimalist styling, eehh, well, you aren't going to like it. It is very quiet as cases go and offers a lot of very useful features.

Plus, there are ways to mitigate the LEDs.

I've read several people saying just use a black Sharpie pen to dim the LED.

I modded my Solo with white LEDs :) I'm not usually one for such trivia, but it does "go" much better with the white case than blue does.

I used the sharpie trick. It works nicely.

thanks for the pics unibomber

looks like it is bright as hell :x

i asked for it as a birthday present. i do love the minimalist styling like you said and all its noise reduction, inards, etc. i'm sure i'll find a way to sleep with it on. the leds weren't going to detour me from buying it.

I have the Solo as well, and also agree that the HD indicator is way too bright. The vents on the right side also leak light from the power LED. I sure wish they would use some kind of diffuser (such as frosted plastic instead of clear) on the LEDs, much like they do in CE products. I thought about swapping the HD light out with an orange or green one.

They're bright, but I don't mind.

It's very bright, its like a lightning storm when the HD is flashing.

I disconnected the leds on my solo along with the leds on its Zalman Fan Controller.

what kind of LEDs did you use?? i want to change mine to red to match my fan controller.

i picked up a few kinds at radio shack today..

-12VDC, 20mA w/ integrated resistor
-1.8volt, 20mA
-2.6VDC, 28mA

so anyone know which one i should use?? they are all the same size LEDs, but obviously the specs are different. thanks for the help!
