P180 AC97 incompatibility?

Post by agraham » Tue Feb 20, 2007 11:27 pm

I was looking for a soundcard that works with the AC97 front panel connector in my P180.
I see a couple of Creative X-Fi cards that have an "Intel HD Audio" connector that is supposed to be backwards compatible with AC97.
But I see some people with P180s are having problems with the auto-mute:

Has anyone else had this problem? Did you figure out how to fix it?

Yeah - theres a guy who has posted instructions for soldering resistors to the XFi etc to get it working 'properly'. I just connected the front panel headphone in so that both the headphones and external speakers can work simultaneously with or without the headphones in. My main speakers are on an amp with a volume knob so I turn em off/down when I want to use headphones and leave em up when I dont.

Automute requires hardware hackery AFAIK.
