SOLO question

Post by Wedge » Tue Apr 24, 2007 7:47 pm

First up, greetings to all as I have not posted here in quite some time. I have been quite busy lately.

I know the P150 had elastic bands for mounting hard drives, and the SOLO is basically an alternative model of the P150. Later on, the elastic bands were replaced with some other material due to problems with the elastic breaking. My question is: Does the SOLO also use the new mounting material that comes with the latest edition of the P150? I think the material is now a fabric of some sort. A little info here please?

The Solo I bought yesterday has the revised "Fabric-enforced elastic rings" found in the last picture of SPCR's P150 Review Postscript.

I actually don't know, there might be Solo cases out there that had the rubber suspension. But if you contact Antec's support they will send you some of the new suspension bands if you get a case with the old rubber ones. :D

You can count on it that you get the proper fabric elastics, my solo has them, in fact, I reckon the Solo never had the rubber elastics. The Solo came some time after the P150 was released, and then already there had been some people with problems with the rubbers. And even if this is not the case, these cases have been around long enough that I would trust any Solo you could buy to have the 'new' fabric elastics.

And other than that, I don't think Antec would make such a problem out of sending you the proper ones.

If all else would fail, you can also just visit the local tailoring shop and buy some elastic band narrow enough to fit the hooks in the Solo case. It's not like those elastic bands are super special or something ;)

Another question--

Do the tower-style heatsinks fit without issues? I know this can vary from one tower to another, but are there any towers that will definitely NOT fit the SOLO?

Not sure what you mean by "tower-style" but the SOLO is not a micro-ATX so if you use a standard ATX mainboard, most will fit. I believe the SOLO is as wide as the P180 so any heatsink that fits in that will fit.

You answered my question, thanks.

By "tower-style" i'm charactering the tall heatsinks that usually have the fan blowing across them rather than down on them. They do not have the fan blowing down in the direction of the motherboard.

My Zalman 9500 blows horizontally and fits fine.

I installed a Scythe Ninja in my Solo yesterday and it fits without problems.

Likewise, a Scythe Infinity or Thermalright Ultra-120 will fit fine in a Solo.
