P182 question

Post by luladude » Wed Jul 04, 2007 8:42 am

hello all

first time here, long time spcr reader.
just ordered a P182 plus a corsair 620w PSU to complete my system (E6320 + artic cooling frezer pro + 2 X HDD samsung SP2004 + 7900 GTO)
read a lot about the case, but I d'like your advise on fans configuration:
1 - I 'll use just the rear fan,
2 - cover the top hole one,
3 - install top fan in front of the upper chamber HDD cage,
4 - take out PSU chamber fan and cover the PSU venting holes.

Appreciate your advice on this, ans other tips.

thanks in advance.

Step 3 is not needed. With this configuration, you should need only a single exhaust fan in the top chamber.

thanks cmthomson !!

I will try that. 1 less fan = less noise, right?
Notice you have a similar rig.
Did you take out the front up chamber filter foam? I've read that it minimizes air flow with fewer fans.

Assuming the HDDs are down there with the PSU, I wouldn't use the HDD cage fan in the upper portion either, as it's a plenty big case. I'd be interested in experimenting whether the top fan or rear fan gave me the best thermal results as an exhaust, but doubt the top fan would be worth the trouble of horizontal mounting and extra dust.

I left the filters on both the P180 intakes, as well as the foam in the Kama Bay. The main reason I installed the Kama Bay was to increase the inlet cross section, which mitigates the impedance of the filters.

My house is quite dusty (two long-hair cats), so I opted to keep the filters, which are much easier to clean than the inside of the computer.

Hi there,

I will first try my new assembly like this:
- 1 intake fan up chamber: as in P182 SPCR review stated, it decreased CPU temperatures by 7 º, I want also to cool my OC chipset
- 1 outtake fan and cover the top hole (noise issues)
- 2 HDD will be cooled by corsair PSU in lower chamber

I d’like your opinion on cost / value on this: Is it worth it to change P182 supplied fans with noiseblocker XL1 (10 € for 2 fans)? Here (Portugal) 2 scythe will cost me about 30€. What would you do it if your decision?

I have notice that in my current system (centurion 530 case with 2 coolermaster 120 mm fans, connected to the P5B MB) the fans spin about 800 rpm (qfan enable). The CPU cooler is an Artic Cooling 7 pro, and the E6320@2100 Hz temperatures are about 35ºC idle, 48ºC stress (intel TAT).
My question is: in the P182 rig should I connect the fans directly to the MB (with less messy cables, and will probably improve the above RPM vs temperatures scenario) or should I use the fans speed dial on the case on LOW (which I believe will set the antec’s fan on 900 rpm), and connect the fans to the PSU?

Once again thanks in advance!

get Yate Loon or Nexus fans, hook them up to the mobo and use speedfan :)

can't get those here easily.
just scythe or noctua "hight quality" ones. but their cost is 300% - 400% higher from the noiseblocker, that are also recommended here (SPCR).
once again, is it worth it (cost vs benefict)?

If I were you I would get the Scythes. I got Nexus in mine. I have some Noctua 800 and 1200 and they are noisy fans compared to the Nexus.

The stock tri cools are noisy too.
