Yeah if you don't mod your video card for reverse airflow to match that of the case this would definitely be an option. I think that $40 would be much better spent on an aftermarket VGA cooler though, with which you can very easily change the airflow plus it is going to be much cooler and quieter than stock can ever be. Plus the top vent is going to leak noise easier directly toward you, not that its really an issue if you are using all 120mm fans, I can't hear mine from over 1 foot away in open air at 600rpm.ces wrote:Has anyone proposed the: Lian Li Replacement Top Panel for PC-A05NB Cases with 140mm Fan Hole and Filter - Black

Re: Improving airflow in Lian Li PC-A05
The problem is that the case by default doesn't have any airflow in the PCI slot area, so unless you have a card that exhausts air out the back, the GPU is going to cook no matter how good the heatsink on it performs. You're right that it isn't ideal from a noise standpoint, but the top panel with 140mm exhaust is a great way to exhaust that hot air from the GPU out of the case.
Lian Li also sells PCI cooling kits that might leak less noise toward the user since they exhaust out the back. I've read that they aren't as effective as the top exhaust fan, though.
edit: Rasterman, you should snap some pics and post them in the gallery section. Sounds like you've taken some more unique approaches to address the flaws of this case, would like to see how you have everything set up.

I had the BS-06 or whatever the 120mm version was that was for the A05. It was pretty useless IMO, barely exhausted any warm air out.
The way to go is to put an exhaust on the top panel or buy the modded top panel. Unfortunately its $40.

The BS-03 seems to help a bit, but the top panel with exhaust fan will definitely provide the most benefit.
NewEgg's price is pretty reasonable, I think it was like $28 shipped last time they sold it, something like that. The problem is that they only get it in stock like once or twice a year, it's ridiculous.

Yeps. I'm waiting for it to come back to NE as well. Haven't seen a 5.25" hole saw for less than $20 either, otherwise I would do the mod myself.frostedflakes wrote:The BS-03 seems to help a bit, but the top panel with exhaust fan will definitely provide the most benefit.

I tried the 140mm BS-06 first before deciding to mod my top panel.
The BS-06 didn't improve my temperatures, no matter what direction the fan was pointing. At that time I had an HR-03 with a fan on my HD 5850 video card.

I finally got some pics of my system online, I decided to go an easy (but crude) front air vent.frostedflakes wrote:edit: Rasterman, you should snap some pics and post them in the gallery section. Is there a good way to make it silent?
Its form factor is so attractive. Mini tower that can hold an ATX motherboard...
P183 is huge and p180 mini only hold castrated matx boards.
