Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

P180/P182: Simple way to lower HDD/CPU/NB temps

Post by Thomas » Fri Sep 14, 2007 1:46 pm

Dont know if this has been mentioned before;

I tried removing the small doors in front of the two air intakes on my P180.

My HDD temp went down with approx. 3 degree, maybe 4.

NB went down by 2-3 deg, and CPU went just a little down, maybe 1-2.

Those prison doors must be really restrictive.

Yes, this is one of the simplest and most effective modifications to the 180/182. The doors are easily removed: pop them open, then press down on the top hinge.

This increases the airflow significantly, perhaps by as much as 2x.

The next even easier modification is to leave the front door open, which again increases airflow by another 2x.

I havent found significant improvements by leaving the door open. Maybe it depends on the amount of airflow, I'm using a low airflow setup.

However, I find closing the door dampen sounds quite nicely. That's good in general, and quite nice for my optical drive.
