I'm [losing] my mind! Fan help needed hums/rattles/vibrates!

Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

I'm [losing] my mind! Fan help needed hums/rattles/vibrates!

I have been working on my P182 for several weeks slowly 1 thing at a time. My PSU was swapped, my 8800GTXwas pulled and I went threw several heatsinks. Now that I got every thing that I want in the case I cant get rid of a Case Hum/Vibration The fans simply create a very loud vibration threw out the steal case. Both intake and rear 120mm fans. They are Yate looms at 50% speed.

I was told that these fans were great silent and cheap well they chirp/vibrate and hum :( I even have silicon dampeners on them... Here is my case, I would like your advice on 4 new 120mm fans that can move air if they have to but can also run moderately quite. They will be hooked up to a fan controller as well.

Looks do matter a bit so please nothing pink or yellow lights ect. Ok and no SLEEVE BEARINGS I am under the impression that thats whats wrong with my current fans...

This is what needs cooling

Intel Q6600 G0 at 3GHz -3.4 depending on my mood :)
Nvidia 680i
8800GT
PC power and cooling 750W silence

You say 50%...are you using PWM control (such as using Speedfan)?

I am using the motherboards fan speed control. The fans are medium speed to begin with they now run at 1200 rpms But they just vibrate and hum so badly :? And the case seams to resonate it to the point of insanity

I am looking at getting these maybe..

other options:

Edit: and its not that my yates are loud its that they vibrate, rattle and hum I mean badly!

Are you sure that the fans are responsible for the vibrations? Maybe they were damaged during shipping but while 1200 rpm is not inaudible it shouldn`t be able to resonate a p180. I had worse fans running in flimsy cases and vibration was never a problem. Hard drives on the other hand can vibrate a lot more and if I`m not mistaken I can make out 4 of them in your picture.

theres a 5th up top but there damn near silent unless there seeking  If I take the fans off of the case and just hold them a 1/4 inch away from it so there not touching then there silent except for a rattly hum

Another question regarding the rear case and its build in fan grill should I remove that?I can hear it creating allot of turbulence noise as well

I have teh same YLs as well.

Running @ 70% of RPM (through my Asus mobo BIOS fan controller)...they produce an irregular humming sounds which feels/sounds like they are vibrating.

Running @ 80% of RPM or higher. The humming/vibrating sound is gone.

Sorry I couldn't be more scientific on my description.

I eventually swapped for some S-Flex fans which are great @100% of RPM.

I`m also very satisfied with my skythe sflex`s, though the best fans I had concerning vibration were some yate loons :o So we could conclude by aztec`s experience that yate loons and PWM control don`t play along nicely?

Well there's of course the SPCR Recommended Fans list to start from. S-Flex was already mentioned, and my vote goes to Noiseblocker Blacksilents and Noctua. Year-old rig now and very satisfied with what I have, details in sig.

I have no idea about their PWM compatibility, I use analogue adjustment.

Your problem is PWM noise. Use a real linear voltage controller, and you'll be fine. It's not the fans (well, OK, it sort of is), it's that mobos don't have 20kHz+ PWM cycles for 2- and 3-wire fans.

Ok can you recommend one? I am counting pennies over hear so

And thanks allot for identifying my problem! Not having to buy fans would mean allot

In that case, check out the 7v and 5v tricks. The cost for a typical YL will be that of molex->tx3 tail per fan, and very small screwdriver or similar to remove and reinstall the pins (erm, I mean a Molex pin extractor). $3+s&H from Jab-tech, IIRC. Probably about the same from Case-mod and SVC. See the fan forum and recommended fan articles for more detail.

Removing the case fan grilles is well worth doing.

You could consider suspending the fans to reduce vibration too. :)

With an Antec P182 you'd probably need to drill some holes to hang them from.

This pic is in a Antec Solo case. :)
