Antec Micro Fusion 350 - almost here?

At last some dimensions! - 38.4cm W x 40.8cm D x 11.5cm H. If accurate, this is bigger than I expected

, especially the height. I'm guessing this includes the feet which might be 1cm. In comparison, my current Inwin low profile case is only ~9.5cm high. I hoped the Antec would be < 40cm deep too. But the width is fairly good.

I wonder why they didn't go with 92mm fans?? - there should be enough space.

Anyway, hopefully it will be available here and in the US very soon. Looking forward to it.

I wonder if you can use an XP-90 + fan in it. I'm guessing not since I think I saw XP-90 + Nexus 92mm fan = 96mm high. Especially if that 11.5cm includes feet, adding spacers, etc. I don't think it'd fit.

So what kind of HSF would you use to keep it quiet?

No, I don't think the XP-90 + fan will fit. From the pics we've seen so far, my guess is the total internal height is about 95mm - 100mm, and the CPU cooler clearance around 80mm - 85mm.

Plus, ventilation on the top appears somewhat limited and doesn't seem to be positioned above the CPU, so ideally we want a side-blowing cooler, or passive, or one < 65mm high (to allow ~20mm+ clearance).

Some possible options?

XP-120 passive - 63mm (without fan)
Zalman 8700 / 7500 - 67mm
Zalman 8000 - 62.5mm
Arctic Cooling 64 LP (AM2) - 65mm (inc 60mm fans)
Silverstone NT06 passive - 78mm (without fan)
Silverstone NT05 - 75mm (inc 70mm fan)
Silverstone NT03 - 72mm (inc 60mm fan)
Silverstone NT07 (AM2) - 36.5mm (inc 80x15mm fan)
Hiper HFC 20820-C1 (AM2)
Hiper HFC 10828-C2 (775)
Stock + fan swap

The Zalmans will probably require a fan swap to be truly quiet. With the NT06, I've seen its possible to mount a fan underneath the body of the cooler, so that could work, but there won't be much clearance above it.

I'm thinking of trying a passive XP-120 (ultimately, with an undervolted E8200, but short-term my current Brisbane X2 4400 undervolted). At the moment, I'm using the stock AM2 cooler, but with the fan swapped for a 92mm Nexus - this is inaudible and works ok. Height is ~67mm.

It doesn't come in black. Neither does the NSK2480 Mini. It would have been nice to have the option.

How well does the NT06 with the fan mounted underneath it (blowing up) compared to say the stock AM2 cooler (the one with no heatpipes)

So there is an NSK2480 Mini? The link you posted is for the 'Big' NSK2480.

Only one version of 2480 AFAIK.

BUT:
The new NSK1480 looks very promising. A bit smaller but still able to use a microAtx motherboard and (apparently) normal full-height-pci cards.

I didn't label it as a "mini" i just saw it on the website listed as a "mini" case.

"ANTEC New Solution Series NSK2480 Mini Case Retail"

As for that 1480 case, same thing, can't they give us the black face option? Most silver faced optical drives won't match their silver front. the black drives just don't look right sitting in the case.

The Fusion appears to include only 1x 3.5" drive cage, whereas the 1480 has 2?!

I wonder how the Fusion 350/ NSK1480 differs internally from the Minuet 300 which has almost the same dimensions? I found that the Minuet was difficult to silence. It had a rigid hard drive cage which seemed to amplify the vibrations of my hard drive to an annoying degree.

The Antec site has mechanical drawings and a product flyer for every case. The NSK1480 has silicone grommets to cushion the drives, like other NSKs.

The slots look only slightly shorter than the case, which is slightly taller than a full-height card.

It's a half height case, so you can only use low profile cards with it.

Where did you get that information?

The case is 12cm heigh and it looks like the PCI slots go all the way from the bottom to the top of the case.

Im with silentbobbo on this one. I think full height PCI cards will fit.

From Antec's website.... "Low profile desktop height fits in any environment"

Doesn't say specifically that it only fits low profile expansion cards. But that line does suggest that.

The NSK2480 has 120mm fans on the side and is a pretty tight fit for some full height PCI cards. The 1480 has 80mm fans on the side. And 80mm fan is probably 1.5-2in shorter than a full PCI card. The case may be 120mm in total height. But you have to consider that there is some empty space in that height as well. I don't see any way a full height PCI card will fit. I plan on buying one of these myself and was also planning on buying a half-height video card to go with it.

There aren't many good pictures to see for sure. This one from NewEgg is the closest I can see. That don't look full size to me.

Right. That definitely doesnt look like full height.

If it doesnt fit "normal" size cards I wont even consider buying this case.

To much hassle with finding low profile cards. Theyre also quite expensive.

SPCR and other sites reported on the case when it was first shown to the public at CES last year. They noted that it only supports low profile cards. It also uses a non-standard sized power supply, so hopefully the one Antec provides is quiet.

Low profile cards are not expensive at all -- it just restricts what you can put in it. High end graphics cards are out for example. There are lots of low profile tuner cards though.

Still waiting... but some online stores here in Austalia have started listing it today - with a release date of beginning of April. So it looks like the wait is finally almost over

Price seems to be around $230 AUD - not much cheaper than the regular Fusion.

The PSU gets cool air directly from outside so the fan should spin slowly. How good is the sound signature of the fan is yet to be heard.

For me the noise of a PSU isn't an issue, because a simple fan swap takes care of it. It's the non-standard size of the PSU that bothers me. If it fails, you can't just swap it for that extra PSU you have in the closet and you can't buy one at any store either.

That shouldn't be a problem since the case has vents on the top - hopefully some are right above the CPU.

I'm wondering if the SI-128 can be modded to allow a fan to be attached underneath as well.

I've been confused about the actual height of the Micro Fusion, so I emailed Antec yesterday and received a great response (and very quickly). The customer support rep who replied said that he measured the case he had on hand - so I think the measurements provided should be accurate.

Here's the details:

- The total height of the case including the feet is approximately 112mm. Excluding the feet it is around 99mm.
- The height internally between motherboard and top panel is about 85mm (allowing 6mm for the mainboard and CPU). A HSF with height of about 65mm is suggested as being suitable.

So this is helpful, and fortunately, the height excluding the feet isn't that much more than other low profile cases.

Anyone here got one yet?? I'm still waiting of them to become available here in Aust, current ETA is 2nd week of April.

I'm wondering if the Scythe Zipang without fan would fit (about 85mm). I think the height might be just flush. But it's the horizontal crossbar that i'm afraid would be blocking. Maybe we can just not put the bar in, if you don't put a monitor on top of it.
