Yate-Loon won't fit under the tabs holding top fan on P182?

Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

Yate-Loon won't fit under the tabs holding top fan on P182?

Post by crabnebula » Sat Feb 09, 2008 12:43 pm

I have a very simple question that will sound trivial, I'm sure, but nonetheless:

Did anyone replace the top Tri-Cool fan in the P182 with a Yate-Loon D12BL-12? The fans I've purchased won't fit under the metal tabs that are used to hold one edge of the fan instead of screws. It seems like the only option I have is to bend the tabs, but I'm afraid they might break or that I'll get a loose fit that will cause vibrations and noise.

Just wondering what other's have done about this.

Thanks in advance!

Don't bend the tabs ! You need to cut the corner flanges of the fan like this :

Thank you very much for taking the time to post a picture. I actually tried to do that initially, but the plastic was so hard to cut that I gave up. I guess I will need a proper saw. May I ask what you used?

Thanks again!

I used a metal saw to cut each side then pliers to break the plastic piece. I guess you could also use a Dremel or something like that

Ok thanks. Guess it's time for some modest "home improvement". :)

Of course, now they are selling open-cornered fans at Jab-Tech.

Link: Click Here and select the open-cornered model. This is the low speed version sleeve bearing.

Hehehe, yeah, just make sure that before you do "Arr arr arr" while turning on power tools, you have company there in case you actually would make Tim Taylor's :P

I used a simple small hack saw to remove just enough of the plastic to fit the tab in.
