Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

desktop matx cases?

Post by xafier » Wed Dec 24, 2008 1:37 pm

What desktop matx cases are there out there?

* want to be able to fit two 3.5" drives minimum
* don't care about 5.25" slots for dvd drives as I wont need them
* not fussed about a PSU as I think i'm going to get a picopsu
* needs to be no taller than 140mm
* needs to be no wider than 450mm
* doesn't want to be much deeper than about 350mm

I'm going to be using it as a small file server / download machine, so I need to be able to fit a couple of high storage hard drives in it and low power mobo (940G) and CPU (Semperon?)

Doesn't matter now, trying to find a case to meet all my needs is seemingly futile, so I've decided I'm just going to run a network cable into what used to be a coal house and put it there :)

Now it doesn't matter if its a big case or whether its particularly quiet, as its out of the way of everyone

Compucase 7K09 uATX Desktop Black Case

367mm(W) x 99mm(H) x 350mm(D)

Up to 3 3.5" HDs if you use the external 3.5" bay and the external 5.25" (with an adaptor) for HDs.

Silverstone do something similar, but that would be too nice (see: expensive) to hide away as a file server.

Just make sure you get a low profile cpu cooler.

The hard part is finding that many bays in a matx mobo case. There are some matx cases with a multitude of drive bays but they are 3.5" not 5.25" and less than the 10 desired.
