Sexed Up HTPC case! - Size 31.4" deep

Post by ces » Fri Apr 23, 2010 4:42 am

Is anyone aware of an HTPC case that would approach 800.00mm (31.4") in depth?

It can be as wide as 482.60mm (19") wide.

But it can't exceed 265.913mm (10.469") high.

Do you think there is anyone out there who builds anything like this?

Even the deepest of the huge tower cases top out at about 24-25" of depth.

That is enough to install the largest video cards and the largest HSFs.

HTPC systems are usually designed to fit in a cabinet or rack so if one was 30+ inches deep, it would be hard to find a place for it in most homes.

I am curious to hear why you need such depth. Please expound.

It is not uncommon to have 19" racks/cabinets with depths in excess of 30".
So there's plenty of room should one want a case of that depth....

Whether or not there is a Hi-Fi styled case with dimensions more along the lines of a typical RU enclosure is another matter.
As for why one would want a case pushing 30" or more; for the same reasons RU enclosures have more emphasis on depth than ht.

I personally couldn't care less if my case isn't pushing close to 30", so long as it's 19" wide & no more than 10.469" high. [6RU]
In fact, if one were to buy a more traditional 19" AV rack you wouldn't want depth hitting 30", that way you'd have room for aeration and cable routing.

But if one wants a little extra depth for a 30"+ case or just more "roominess".
Then racks/cabinets with 39.4" depth are also pretty common nowadays anyway.

I wouldn't call myself a guru on the subject...
Just looking for the ideal enclosure based on my requirements.
