Pin extractor's and Case Modding

Post by ~El~Jefe~ » Mon Sep 20, 2010 3:46 pm

I am trying to tidy up my case. Being that it is 100% clear, it sure looks messy, plus, some fans dont connect properly without much fuss.

I am going to sleeve or tape EVERYTHING! I am going to use red and black color schemes.

I am trying to find an extractor tool for:

4-pin PWM female (and I guess male but I duno if there's a specific tool for it)
4 pin big daddy Molex
3 pin regular female and male connectors

And, I think that ATX psu and pci-e connectors use the same female tool (i think) as would work for 4-pin Big Daddy molex's.

Hm. OH! I also want to work on those TINY little fan's that I find on graphics card, the headers on them. Very tiny lil suckers. I want to be able to make my own plugs too, so that's the modding part. I dont want to have to use all of these $3 extension and adapters, they look ugly, are too long and cost so much over the years for something that is so simple and should cost pennies.

okie dokie

what about tiny tiny 4 pin PWM's and ultra tiny vga fan headers?

I wish there was a whole kit to cut, crimp, and do all the molex from the ground up. Warranties are for wusses.

hm looks like it is EU only.

hm. I guess in order to make mini 4 pin like PWM fan females I need a crimping set. Right?

You know what? I did that, I had a small eyeglass screwdriver that worked well.

Know another thing? It weakens the cheap metal used on them terribly so. I have to yet again redo my molex guys. I can say that a molex extractor temporarily pushes down on the sides so you can pull it out, it doesnt dent them in then you pull them out.

just a thought. but yes, once I watched how they are made I knew what to look for.

I need now a pincer type but I dont want to spend 25 euros and shipping :)

Radio Shack sells a pin extractor for the big 4-pin molex.

YES! I just bought it. It is made like a surgical machine. For 8 dollars, man, that thing rocks the party. I havent tested it yet, but it's smooth, spring loaded and made out of heavy strong metal of some sort.

radioshack ftw so far.

it's too late for the 4-pin molex, but for those who want to do it, and don't want to spend $8 for the tool, just remove the inside ink tube out of a ballpoint pen, cut a slit in it, and it will slide right over the molex pin.

Female molex extractor.... much harder/more annoying. I am sleeving and heatshrinking, changing fans, I have a bunch to do. What I like about the made tools is that you dont have to flatten the prongs that hold it in and then rebend out the prongs weakening them. I mean it's a convenience thing, but 8 dollars plus tax INCLUDES shipping if you go into a radioshack, they never have them in stock, ship free to house!
