Ummmm, you do realize that borging anothers system without their permission is strictly against the EULA? It's stuff like this that ends up giving folding a bad name... :(

Dave
I'm with dasman borging is not a good thing and sets bad example for all.

It is not only illegal. In this instance it is even not the most effective you could have done.

You supply them a service by fixing there PC problems. Now you could ask them to fold for you on ALL the computers in their household as a payment.

Lets get more computers folding, but do it the right way.

Will everyone please GET OFF MY ASS :!:

I'm not the first or only one to do this.

1. They wouldn't have cared anyways.

2. This is the only PC they have (besides the old 486SX)

How many here have installed it on their computer at their work place??? You know you didn't ask your boss if you could install it on just yours. IT'S the SAME DAMN THING !!! You might have asked if you were wanting to install it on all the computers.

Leave me the F#$* alone. Trying to help out the team and all I get is this crap.

Maybe Macrumors would appreciate the points...

Good work! It was a close race until yesterday, and now you're zooming up the ranks way ahead of me, leaving a green trail on my LCD monitor.

Now that I'm getting mainly Gromacs, my PPW is going steadily back down again, but I'm glad all those Tinkers I got helped to make things interesting!

BTW, nice job putting three hot machines on one Reserator! Glad it worked out for ya.

Now calm down...

As long as you don't write a virus-like installer like a certain someone did not too long ago, and you don't generate any bad publicity, then nobody is going to raise a serious stink about this issue. If, in your opinion, it is morally right to "borg" machines as you did, then I'd say go ahead (we do appreciate the points). Probably the reason you met some resistance here is because they don't want you to get too carried away with it and lose sight of the big picture.

Personally, I've resisted borging work machines thus far (mostly for fear of losing my job); instead, I recently spent $300 of my own pocket money to build a dedicated folder. But I did sorta cave a couple weeks ago: I finally borged my girlfriend's lightly-used-but-frequently-on 2Ghz Dell with a service installer. It is still sitting on my conscience, though.

Woodsboy,

Relax -- my post was intended to be a friendly reminder :D of what the EULA states -- it's far to easy to get caught up in the points part of things. Also, others lurking the thread may not realize what the EULA says on the subject.
As long as you don't write a virus-like installer like a certain someone did not too long ago, and you don't generate any bad publicity
Whether a virus like installer does the installation or it is done manually doesn't make much of a difference if someone goes to Stanford's site and posts a "I don't know how this got on my system, but here's a log file -- how do I get rid of it" message. You never know which "borg" may backfire. I, for one, would start to wonder why my computer is suddenly running louder and start to look around. It wouldn't take long to find a 100% process when nothing is running. It's easy to ask, harder to explain after the fact.

As for running at work, yes, I run at work on all of the systems, but since I'm the boss, it was easy to say yes to me.

I'd be royally PO'd if I found something installed on all of the systems without permission, without an explantion of what it does and without thorough in-house testing of the application. The last person that installed Kazaa (or whatever the p2p software was this past time) on our systems was canned and caused yet another net safety seminar to be held in-house.

Again, nothing personal was intended and it wasn't intended to start a "pile on" series of posts

Fold on, 8)

Thanks, Copper :)

Took me a long time (almost two days -- seemed like forever!) to get over the hump from 102 to 100. I'm happy to not have to switch to Page 2 in the EOC Stats anymore; it feels more like I've accomplished something now.

I think I'll take a break from checking my stats for a while. My resolution: don't check again until tomorrow morning

O, I'll get him. All in due time.

I have this nice unused P4 2.8C. Waiting to start its work in the new case I am silencing at the moment.

Although, it is nice and sunny outside for the first time in days. So that may wait till monday before I continue.
