Congrats wgragg Image

I was wondering who is going to get to 10th first, you or haysdb. Not that I'm trying to start anything

I am 8000 points ahead of wgragg, 8000 points behind Cosine, who will be 10th after ARM Systems passes him in about a week. I just need to overtake Cosine faster than wgragg overtakes me, and I am currently doing that. Of course, that equation could quickly turn in wgragg's favor, but I am charging hard to reach #10 first. In fact, I have challenged myself to reach #9 first, so that when he bumps me down a notch, it'll only be to 10th and not 11th. THAT is going to be close.

By the time I get to 10th, it looks like tragus will be #9 (CharlieChan and mas92264 will both have passed him). Tragus' threats list at Arachnid (based on weekly production) shows wgragg overtaking him a day or two before I do, so at the moment I trail in that race, but it's really too close to call since that won't happen for ~20 days.

Alas, while I've been happy to rest for a while at #6 on the team, a lot of my computing power is currently dedicated to RealWork (tm)--crunching large amounts of data. I've borged all the computers at the lab and at home, but I've topped out the available cycles. As I am passed by the mighty folders, I tip my monocle to all the powerhouses.

Curiously, despite my current relatively low folding output, Lockheed is on my conquest list -- in late 2005.

Fold on!

I have already accepted the fact that David will hit #10 before me. I only have 3 more processors that I can add, but I doubt it will make enough of a difference to change the outcome, as at least 2 won't be added until next week, probably.

By the same token, David has been, and is, such a good sport, he deserves to hit it before me!

Hmm, I wonder if I get a Mac if it would help? No! What am I saying? I want to use real computers, not those fruity looking things!

tragus, what I hear you saying is, I'm in big trouble once your current project is over? EXCELLENT!

wgragg, mighty nice of you to let me be 10th first. 3 more processors? Come on, get 'em online!

LOL, I'm working on it. I have a lot of customization and security work to do on them as they are public access PC's for our online catalog. I have to make sure that innocent and not so innocent idiots....I mean patrons can't break anything!

Now if we get to do this conversion to a new automation system that I am pushing, I can get a lot more processors going, but that is probably a year away.

You got me. I probably got hold of a bunch of stinkies or something....or one of those 70 point gromacs that takes forever. Besides, it is just a temporary blip. Will fix itself, don't worry.

By the way, what is the link to arachnid? I am going through stat withdrawal.

Kinda slow to load, so be patient.

I'm sorry, I can't help it. I'm concerned you won't even beat me to 9th, and that'd be a tragedy.

Aww, I'm touched by your concern! Now if you wish to put feet to those crocodile tears, you could consider slowing down your folding farm! I mean, I keep adding p4 2.4c processors, and you still won't let me get ahead! You been feeding your blades ground up Macs for supper or what? :? :?

Actually David, I have a better idea. I have this super-duper little config file. All you have to do is just replace your current config files with it and the problem will be solved! :P

You are not catching me alright, to the tune of 2300 PPW. I have managed to slow you down a bit, but NOT MUCH. I'm racking my brain trying to figure out where to get another 2K PPW, but it's just not happening, unless I can "hide" my first farm and build a second one without my wife noticing. I keep thinking I can slip just one more board, and then one more board, but as long as I have fewer boards than she has fingers, I'm SOL. Just last night she observed that "they seem to be multiplying."

Hmm, are you sure you are keeping the male boards away from the female one?

When she says that, I give her a puzzled look, scratch my head, and say "Yeah," like I really don't understand it either.

In fact, I have reason to believe blades are bisexual. I bought one nForce board, but somehow I ended up with a second. Furthermore, the reproductive process is highly Darwinian. Boards which don't produce tend not to reproduce. My Abit VA-10, even though I have had it the longest, has yet to reproduce. My ASUS board had just one offspring. I predict that my single Intel board will fail to produce offspring. In contrast, my Biostar nForce2 boards are proliferating like bunnies.

It's the same with cpu's. The Barton 2500+ is a virile chip, and threatens to completely wipe out all other species.

Now the only mystery is HOW they do it. I wonder if they watch mainboard porn to get in the mood?

Yeessssss... That Zero Insertion Force socket really gets them steamed.

Damn. I've made two posts tonight and they were both stupid. Remind me why I post here after drinking at the pub?

It's a good thing this is a TEAM effort, because 10 of my systems were down for 12 hours yesterday. In the grand scheme of things, that's only ~500 points, but they were MY 500 points! Apparently I had some sort of power "event" that took down my server, plus at least two of my Windows machines. The blades in my farm rebooted, but because the server went into never never land, the blades were sitting idle. I wish I had a UPS for my farm, but that's not terribly practical considering it draws most of a kilowatt.

I'm just bummed because I was expecting to overtake tangled by now, and it might be just the window wgragg needs to beat me to 9th.

wgragg flew past aphonos yesterday, to creep within two spots of me. That makes him "feel" a lot closer than he was yesterday.

If she's just counting boards maybe dual processors would help your points multiply and not your boards
